Here are two re-edits of a sunrise I shot 2 years ago. Let me know which version you like the best. If you have any suggestions on how to make either photo better, feel free to let me know.

Thanks,
Shawn

Version 1. I find the opened up shadows of number 2 a bit distracting and that they take away from the composition.

Thanks, I am having such a hard time deciding on the two. I do like Version 1 a lot.

In my opinion Number 1, with the foreground in silhouette draws the eye to the sunrise. Number 2 on my LCD monitor looks a little washed out, and the extra detail in the foreground detracts from the mood of the composition.

For me the original rocks. I wouldn't change it. To me it seems to have some feeling to it for some reason. I like the darker contrast and the "mystery" of the shadows.

I like version 1. Ver 2 appears washed out and foreground looks funky. The orig. is a bit too dark for me.

Hmmm... I get where you're going with number 2. The ground is interesting. But the image really needs some deep blacks to give it impact. For that reason I much prefer #1.

However, you'll want to use the history brush to remove some of the haloing around the tree limbs caused by sharpening. The rest of the image looks fine though.
