thank you everyone for your comments!

my free study is only at 4.8 and i don't anticipate much of an improvement but i'm shooting a new style so thats cool. it'll improve with practice.

i've just shot a bunch of pics and might enter one in fireworks.

Happy New Year everyone!

i'm proud to be part of this team and look forward to the new year on it.

Happy new year!

Made it back from skiing in CO despite the weather's best efforts. No good mountain shots, unfortunately, but what a treat to ski with my two young daughters, neither of whom knew how to ski before this trip.

My last two entries did about as I expected, but I managed to eke a 5 out of both of them.

I'm happy with patterns, because it's a personally meaningful shot; despite starting at 4.8, it's crept up to 5.5.

Harsh environments is doing fine, too, at 5.3. I tried a radical editing style.

But my free study is rather incredible. Best start by far: 7.46 after 13 votes! It would be very sweet to get a new personal best to start 2007.

I had an idea for 12 days, but ended up socializing too much this weekend. That's a sound decision as far as I'm concerned. :)

Haven't been keeping up as much with the thread (or the last part of the old thread either) but I thought I'd post an update - didn't actually enter "Harsh Environments" as I said I would - the concept just didn't work out. But I have shots now in 12 Days of Christmas and Free Study, and have one for Centered Composition as well. My scores this time round will be lower than my Pink Floyd and actually I am finding it a welcome change as I do not have to worry so much about where precicely the score ends up.

Good luck everyone in this group of challenges and everyone have a good happy wonderful new year :-)

happy new year to all!

ok, i just got a comment i just don't get. at first i thought it might from a non-english speaker, which could explain it, but no.

'DNMC. You can't make up your own rules.'

it doesn't seem to be tongue in cheek. just grumpy. maybe he's hung over. i know it's out of the box, but everyone else seems to get it. o well.

sorry to start theyear with a whine, it just surprised me.

I shouldn't worry about it. I have a really bizarre comment on my patterns entry that just made me think "eh?" - it's just everyone has their own take on things.

Congratulations to everyone in 12 Days of Christmas on the top 100 finish ;)

Meanwhile, my patterns is around 4.98, and my free study is 5.55. Both of these I think are good scores considering the photos. I will be happy if they stay around there. Of course I'd be happier still if patterns went above 5, that would really exceed my expectations for the shot.

It is patently obvious that you can make up your own rules.
With most games where sets of rules apply and degrees of success are defined by those rules, analysis of the rules and strategic design of behaviour within them is probably the best way to achieve success that is thus defined.
Sentences like that are used to fill space inside the box. Outside of it there are all sorts of low-lifes who re-define success. Well, they would do that, wouldn't they?
It's nice to have a box to crawl into. Sometimes it gets a bit crowded in there with folk who don't get out much.
I think you started the new year on a roll, Christian :)

Jeff, that's ribbon territory...and in Free Study, too! I can't wait to see your shot, and hope it holds! You must have brought some of that mountain air back to DC with you.

Thanks for the sweet comment on my Harsh Environment Deb! I'm glad you liked it. I was hoping for some Team Suck comments on this one.

Raish, that score is nothing to sneeze at. Bet you finish over 6!

I am amazed at my scores:
Free Study 5.1818
AA Battery 5.1040
12 Days of Christmas 5.6351 and 7 comments

Not that these are great scores, but they are better than the 4.5 - 5.0 I was expecting in Free Study and 12 Days!

I almost entered it for my free study and now seeing how bad the one i entered is doing i wish i had at least i might have got some funny comments

I'm thrilled that harsh is still above 6, though there are still a few days to go. I am quite disappointed in my Free Study. I thought it was lovely in a way that DPC could appreciate. But I have made that mistake before. I was also surprised to see a dnmc comment on my patterns entry.

xianart, the commentor's phrasing is key. he is telling you what you can and cannot do. that reveals how he sees the universe.

Since we're all reporting on scores, here are mine:
- Free Study started the new year with a 7.0 (2 votes), and it has now dropped to 5.6 and no comments after 40 votes.
- Pattern is at 4.9 with four valid comments.
- Harsh Environment is a 5.6 with thirteen varied comments. Two said it isn't "photographic", one said it's awesome, and Melethia has it totally figured out.
- 12 Days of Xmas is at 5.3 with three comments.

I was hoping for a 6 for Free Study, but it doesn't look like it will make it.

Did anyone else have fun photographing fireworks last night? It was the first time I tried that, and I learned a lot. I will be entering one of them, but haven't made my choice yet.

Best to date, woooohoooo ... I'm just trying to climb out of the hole I created when I first joined.

Anyone else having such problems voting today? I can't keep the site up and running for me.
