Woo! I knew I could pick myself out of the 4's, if only for a little while!

OK, here's an opinion question for my fellow suckee's. Are snakes a bad subject? I did not receive a single 10 vote on my patterns entry, though my score was my second highest to date. Does it give people the creeps to vote a 10 for a snake? Or is it something technical with the picture that would prevent someone from voting it a 10? I know this is only a matter of opinion, but it seems that even on my suckiest pictures I receive at least one 10 vote so I don't get it.

Also, just opinions, but I'm really interested. What did you think of the uncooked macaroni that placed 7th. I know Don liked it by his comment, but why?
01/03/2007 08:28:59 AM · #254
I'm sure snakes give some the eebie geebies, but I rather like 'em - I like lizards, too. I'm weird. Don't know why you didn't get any 10s, though - it really was a very nice shot and very well suited to the challenge.

As to the macaroni - I'm a bit suprised it finished where it did. Not my cup of tea and really didn't do anything for me, but then I not only suck at submitting, I generally suck at picking winners, too.

I shouldn't think that a snake in itself will preclude a 10. If I recall, an image of a snake with an apple was a ribbon winner not long ago.

More likely, it just wasn't a 10 image for people. Sometimes I don't give out any 10s.

kdsprog I tend to love photos of snakes and lizards - I think weird things are cute, I guess - but I know there are some people who have difficulty looking at them. I just uploaded a snake photo I took at the beach - I've had a very mixed reaction on other sites, will be interested to hear Team Suck's take:

Will leave you comment on your snake entry, which I enjoyed.

YELLOW====Team Minus===============5.6443666666
SQ========The Hoovers==============5.5382
BROWN=====Team Novice==============5.4833

Well the Butterflies left us in the dust this week. They have the honor of presenting an OOBIE and a YAPPIE to whomever they choose.

Our Momentary Lapse of Sucking award goes to Blue Moon and her ridiculous 6.9351 score. She is now asked to comment on all the Team Suck entries this week, and share her wisdom.

I apologize for not mentioning personal bests last week. This week, congratulations are in order for Blue Moon, silverfoxx, snaffles, bmartuch. If I missed somebody, please toot your own horn!

I need to get to commenting on everyones shots, the Christmas/New Year got me down.

Well I won't be much help to the butterflies this week. I entered the Fence shot that I love, it started out nicely at 6 with a comment that it's the one to beat and has been dropping ever since, down to 4.5 now and promises to be my personal worst *sigh* I obviously don't have a clue. Either that or the voters just don't recognise genius when they see it lol.

Try not to let the scores get you down (hard for all of us, I know). I try to look at low scores as a way to improve on my technique - generally speaking, I learn a lot from comments And worry not, if you don't get comments during the challenge, Team Suck will provide them for free afterwords :-)

I'm not entirely sure it's my technique I need to work on (though I am more than willing to accept suggestions) - I think it's my choice of subject and presentation of same. I'm boring, and I think my photography often echoes that.

no, wait, i have one goal. how do i get the oobie gif to put on my bio? i was deeply flattered to get one, and a lifetime-up-'til-this-point one at that, so i'd love to display it on my profile.

oo, yeah, happy new year everyone!

one other question - any thoughts on elliptical vs. rowers for exercise machines?

Here's how 12 days and Fences are doing...apologies in advance for such a sucky fence shot. Oh well, nothing like an OOF pic to humble you!

I think that my problem is somewhat the same as yours. I don't always pick the best subject matter, but then, I don't put a lot of time into setups either. I also think that my post processing really turns people off. I have to stop doing that. That being said, I'm really happy with my pattern score even though I really don't care for the picture.

I guess it's time to break down and take a peek at my "Centered" score.

Well, I just peeked at my "Centered" score.

Please tell me that what I'm seeing is correct. This has NEVER happened before.

Holy Batman! Can't wait to see this photo, Bob!

Ummm... Bob? That score does not suck. You must disqualify yourself immediately!

Even if we tend to regress towards our mean, we can relish the highs and bemoan the lows.
