yeah pits, i got jealous when I saw the 12 (i thought my 10 was hot stuff) - but the 8 second shutter speed max is pretty sad if you do nighttime/low light shots at all....if there's a bulb feature that I didn't see - I'll take that back...

...but that aside - looks pretty kick arse to me!

8 sec or 16 sec shutter is not a big deal,just change F stop higher number or higher ISO you will compensate that!

=`) yeah...sort of - but the f-stop trick isn't desirable in all situations - me, personally - I'd kill to have a bulb feature.

don't take that as a diss though - If I would have known about this cam before I got the kodak it would have been a tough race - because the optical zoom makes up for a lot!

It is not just 12 X ,but also have shake stabilizer,that kind of lens (420 mm) with stabilizer for SLR would cost you 3-6000 $ !

400 mm lens

but...

why do two sites report the megapixels differently?

this one says 4:
//vdirect.securesites.com/store/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=DMCFZ10K&srccode=cii_6688861&cpncode=03-12107375

while this one says 2:
//www.steves-digicams.com/2003_reviews/fz1.html

??? is it me or is it just late?

The Steves Digicams review is of the FZ1, not the FZ10.

dam*it pits...something tells me that I'm going to pick this up too and see which one does better betwix my big K and the pano.

I want the digi rebel...but every time I turn around there is a digicam that doesn't make the 1000 + at least 1000 in accessories seem worth it...

da*n technology...in another 3 months...

I REALLY want this camera...
It doesn't come out in the UK until March/April,
so, is there anybody from the UK going to America or vice versa in the next couple of months who would be willing to bring one over for me?
I would make it worth their while of course, as it will also be MUCH cheaper in America than here, and I don't mind paying extra for the incovenience. Might come in handy for you with Christmas coming!! pm me if you're interested.

I've been trying to keep up with the chatter about this model in the forums on dpreview and steve's digicams but am confused. It seems that it may already be available in Asia with sample images posted on Panasonic's Japanese site. There is some concern about Chromatic Aberation, or fringing. Some posters say that the firmware has not been finalized and the fringing, and other concerns, will be remedied in the final version. I saw, and even downloaded, some images that were not all that impressive, IMHO. I am hoping that someone will get there hands on a finalized production model and do an in depth review before it appears in stores here in the US. (Imaging-Resource.com seems to have an aversion to Panasonic, no reviews of past models and not a word about the FZ10.) This camera has a lot of features I find to be highly desirable and not available in other models. I hope it can live up to expectations.

digital camera resource page has test images posted here:
DCRP preview of FZ10

I think he is expected to have the full review posted by this Friday.
I like the features of this camera and am hoping it gets good marks on image quality. Would love to hear what you think of these test shots.

they (should) have one in the local store here now.
I was in there last week and they shown me the 2MP one, and said there was a new 4MP one due in stock next week, being, this week ;)
bit weird for Australia to get stock before other countries?
maybe they were telling stories?
can drop in there soonish and see tho ;)

Saw a bit of news in last weeks 'Amateur Photographer'.
It boasts a Leica DC Vrio-Elmarit Lens (f2.8) giving a 35-420mm in 35mm format.
Manual exposure/manual focusing/manual white balance/Spot metering/macro down to 5cm/burst mode designed to deliver up to eight full-size pictures at 4 fps/sd and multimedia cards/hotshoe for external flash/iso 50,100,200,400. And Panasonics Mega Opitcal Image Stabiliser (OIS) to help prevent camera shake.

In particular the Leica lens makes this a very interesting camera.

Well, I've owned one of these for about two months now. I bought it mainly to save money on all the sports pictures I take of the kids. Despite my love for film this camera does do well for the purpose I use it. It's winter now so all my sports shooting is inside. I keep the ISO set at 50 and use METZ 44 CL flash. I can capture decent shots half-way across the gym. The image stabilization adds greatly in hand held pictures. Slight shutter lag that I am still adjusting to for action shots. As with all digitals, you've got to anticipate the shot a little. I do find the camera body to be a bit awkward to hold. The grip area is much smaller than all my SLR bodies and the big lenses throws the balance off. All in all the best choice if you need the big zoom. I just wish there was a RAW format.
