I read about the Photomatix program. Is it better than the built in HDR in CS2? Is it worth buying the stand alone program?

Just realized that I spelled Photomatix wrong in the title!

IMO, it is more intuitive and more capable than the CS2 tools. Download the demo and play with it; it's fully functional, it just watermarks the final image.

Edit: FWIW it's "Photomatix." I corrected the thread title.

It is "Photomatix Pro" and I use it. I have not used the CS2 version of HDR, but I have seen a lot of comments elsewhere that Photomatix is better. If you actually have CS2, try their version first before buying and see how it works for you.

Photomatix pro offers a free demo version that is full featured... it watermarks the images, but you can do your own comparisons to see if 1- the image output is better, and also 2- the ease of manipulating settings is better.

There is a photoshop export plugin, and also a stand-alone program. You can buy both as a bundle at a discounted price. If you have an academic affiliation, they have a discount for non-professional use.
