Didn't enter anything, so not a real outtake. Just having fun at my kitty's expense:

You have a RAW converter that allows you to selectively blur the background? That'd be worth its weight in gold for basic challenges :-)

In case anyone even noticed that Karma the WonderDog wasn't even entered in this challenge, well... there's a reason for that... After the way Art et al roasted her for being the"Assless WonderDog", she refuses to pose for any more portraits. Her pride was deeply wounded, and she pays no attention to me when I tell her not to take it personally...

So it goes :-)

just looking in this forum or wotever you call it coz i made a big mistake in the pet challenge ... had an ok shot submitted then decided it was boring and thought a more interesting shot should go in ... took an ordinary photo, did really bad processing, and during a short spell of insanity submitted it .. wont put the embarrassing one in here, but this is the one that should've gone in ...
' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/67145/thumb/440918.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/67145/thumb/440918.jpg', '/') + 1) . '

i personally like keebow's entry and not the outtake
' . substr('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21.gif', strrpos('//www.dpchallenge.com/images/user_icon/21.gif', '/') + 1) . ' keegbow

edit: .. i like the entry MORE than the outtake ... the outtake is a stunner as well ..

I must say I was quite happy with my score. I didn't expect my entry to do well because it was not a typical furry/fluffy pet.

This was my entry:
' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/599/thumb/436869.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/599/thumb/436869.jpg', '/') + 1) . '
Yes, she is a pet...this is my female charcoal cornsnake Equinox.

These were two potentials...I ended up using Equinox because she is a little larger and shows up better!

This is Solstice - my female Lavender cornsnake. I didn't like how she was behind the branch.

And this is Ballentine - my female bloodred cornsnake. I thought her face was a little too much in shadow.

All are nice, but that one really catches my eye.

This was a very long week, moments before the deadline I made the decision as to which image to upload and 10 minutes later I realized that I had made a very bad decision. I still like the image, but it just wasn't correct for the challenge. Live and learn... here are two other images I could have submitted

' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/15358/thumb/440995.jpg?0', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/15358/thumb/440995.jpg?0', '/') + 1) . '

or
' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/15358/thumb/440996.jpg?0', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/15358/thumb/440996.jpg?0', '/') + 1) . '

this is also my first try at posting thumbs, so if it blows up, accept my apologies.

I would appreciate any feed back.

I didn't do as well as I hoped... but still. (a good number of 2's,3's and 4's??) It's my favorite of Donnie thus far and hey... I got alot of comments saying I should sell it to a stock agency! :)

This was my favorite!!!! But I play favor to Goldens.

Thanks!!! I love it too!!! :)

this was one of my top 10,, i think it is a great shot and have no idea why folks would not like it, i wonder if people think 'portrait' means face only...or at least more top half?

not sure it'd scored any better...it was my first submission and I pulled it...figured high key wouldn't do well

I went with this which didnt fare too well( I was toying with the idea to use it in the Dirt challenge but the portrait won through), The blue eyes put some people off, but this is a common trait in the American Paint Horse especially when they have a lot of white in their faces. Some even have one blue and one brown eye. My entry has two blue eyes and my outake has one blue and one brown.

Your entry was definately the correct choice to go with for the horizontal composition better suits the portrait than the vertical one. I say better because it shows the environ this horse lives in and I find that appealing. Not to mention the colors are wonderful whereas the B&W I feel is a little flat in tonal range.

Too dark...too soft...too dark

I love this shot but like my actual entry it would have been slammed to shizzle.

I was going for a Daguerrotype thing. Paid low dividends. I blame The French.

One of the most frequent comments during voting on my entry was "you cut the ears off!" so here are some of the shots where you can see her ears:

' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/67809/thumb/440819.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/67809/thumb/440819.jpg', '/') + 1) . '

as well as two of the other shots I'd considering entering (ears chopped there too)

' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/67809/thumb/440817.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/67809/thumb/440817.jpg', '/') + 1) . '

And the actual entry:

' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/599/thumb/436503.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/599/thumb/436503.jpg', '/') + 1) . '

It took an hour to set-up the scene:

' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/43463/thumb/440775.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/43463/thumb/440775.jpg', '/') + 1) . '

Gerbils are smart animals. Once Brownie figured out she could climb down the curtains it took about an hour to get a decent shot. I would snap a picture, she'd make her escape to run around the playpen. I'd let her run around for a few minutes so that she could run off some energy. Then I'd place her back on the "balcony" for another shot or two before the whole process began again:-)

Submitted shot

' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/599/thumb/436548.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_challenge/599/thumb/436548.jpg', '/') + 1) . '

The B&W Outtake. I decided to not go with the B&W because in the off chance it scored high I have enough B&W shots in my top 5. Plus I liked the color shot without the border more.

' . substr('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/43463/thumb/440776.jpg', strrpos('//images.dpchallenge.com/images_portfolio/43463/thumb/440776.jpg', '/') + 1) . '
