I think it would be very fun to see an "Exclusive Open Challenge" for this years Best of 2006 challenge. Then people that are under 18 (like me) could enter. I think this kind of challenge would be very fun since it would be SO competitive due to the amount of challenges.

What do you think???

I think the best of 2006 challenge should be members only. There will be a ridiculous number of entries even then.

I agree

One of the reason I joined when I did last year was that I knew that the Best of 2005 was coming up. It's a perque of membership.

You got $5.00? Join for a month right now and you'll be able to enter!

At the risk of sounding like one of the "Save the Children" commercials...

The cost of a DPC membership s less than 7 cents a day :-)

I would love to but I am under 18.

But, I do see now that an open challenge for "best of" challenge would just include way to many entries. I think the last one was at 826 or something.

Guess I'll just have to wait about 6 months. Thanks for the input!

huh? There are LOTS of members who are under 18. My daughter (14) is just one of them. You can join.

There would likely be an enormous number of possible entries in an Open "Best of 2006" Challenge. Perhaps such a Challenge could be run in Divisions. For example - and photographer's average would have to be determined arbitrarily at some cut-off date -

Division A - Average of 6 and above
Division B - Average of 5.5 - 5.99
Division C - Average of 5.0 - 5.49
Division D - Average of under 4.99

Perhaps, this would make each contest manageable and then everyone could compete on some level.

Of course, I can see that lots of people would like to vote on Division A, and less on Division D. And I don't know how to level that playing field.

hmm, quite like that idea...could have positions within a division for each challenge anyway...
12/15/2006 10:51:49 AM · #11
Yeah! Go Division D!
12/15/2006 11:32:11 AM · #12
woohoo, I'm in division B. I think with some work I could make div C in time...
12/15/2006 11:47:40 AM · #13
Well I'm currently live in Division C and with more of the pet challenge, could move down to compete w/my pal MIST!

But he'll kick my butt!

Yeah... I just recently squeezed out of division C with a run of uncharacteristically good images. I'm not sure i can handle the competition in division B :-)

With any luck my Pet Portrait will actually move me up a division. I'm on the brink I tells ya. ;)

However, the higher the division, the less my chances of actually doing well within it, so on second thoughts, maybe it's best to stay under the radar.

Div C, all the way, baby! :-)

I'd love that, because of my inconsistency, I am able to score way higher than my average and way underneath it. So, basically the challenge would be a crap shoot for me :-)

Yeah, I wish we had std deviation as well as average score :) I'm usually at least plus or minus 1 on my average, with occasional swings to +-2.5

Then we could all compete on how deviant we are...

What I'd like to see is separate categories for landscape, candid, portraits, macros, etc.

And then presumably have them exclusive so people can only enter one?

And then take the best 10 or so shots from category and run them off for the Grand Finale Best of challenge?

That would definitely be easier to choose one to enter.

Whatever would be easier to do. I just like the idea of awarding the year's best in multiple categories since ideally we would have lots of worthy candidates.
