any info on the comparison b/w 20d or 30d and new 400d? why is it so much cheaper to start with?

The difference with the 30D and the 400D is build (quality and size) and a couple or few features. 30D has spot metering, 400 has the anti-dust thingy.

Both have larger LCDs compared to the 20D, but that's technically a generation old now, so comparison is not that fair.

400D has more megapixels.

I just bought the 400D, and to me the biggest difference was in the build. The 30D has the mag. body, and the 400D is plastic. The 30D is also a little bigger/heavier. (felt better to hold)

To me the added features of the 30D were not enough to justify the added cost, but its all up to the person buying.

Side by side comparison: Link

The 400D has more consumer related features.
The 20D/30D has more traditional high end features.

Both cameras take comparable shots. If you took the same static shot with both cameras and printed it out, it would be hard to tell the difference between the models.

It is like a hamburger, are you the type who prefers lots of condiments or a better patty.

Yes. I like to think of my 20D as a cheeseburger, and the 30D is a bacon-double-cheese. The 1dsmk2 is probably the Whopper, or something.

Did the 30d go back to the mag alloy body? My 10d has that but the 20d does not. It's the polycarbonate body...

According to the review at www.dpreview.com it is the mag alloy.

Mine has a basket, a bell and things to make it look good.
I'd give it to you if I could, but I borrowed it.

You've got a 400D and still have dust issues? Does that occur often?
Good to know as I'm thinking of buying one too... when I have money one day ;)

Your 20D is poly? Really? hmm mine I'm quite sure isn't poly, it looks like it sorta from the paint, but it's mag alloy, and everything I've read says it's a magnesium allow. Is yours a north amerca market model?
