I just purchased a Canon PowerShot S3 camera last week and I was surprised that when I loaded the photos into PhotoShop Elements and looked at the properties, there is no information for the ISO settings. All of the shots I took with my previous camera (Minolta 5D) include the ISO settings.

Can anyone tell me why there is no ISO information in the Canon PowerShot EXIF data?

It is probably because the ISO information is not in the place that Elements expects it to be. It is there, no doubt, it's just not being found.

The info is there -- I can see it with IrfanView. However, Canon uses some funny code numbers instead of the straight ISO value, e.g. "16464 (other)" = ISO 80.

You may need to take a series of shots at the various ISO settings to work out the code; I did once, but have misplaced the list .. : (

My question is, if Canon is using funky codes and or putting it in a strange place, why wouldn't Photoshop look for it anyway? It's not like Canon isn't a well known brand, if not THE premier line in many people's estimation. Why wouldn't Photoshop have gone the extra mile to make their software compatible with the Canon format?
