Your challenge this week is to take a photograph in the style of film noir.

Alternate challenge title: "Dead men don't wear plaid"

i'm down. i have had an idea in my head for over 7 months that would fit pretty well for this and since i am lazy as hell this would give me an excuse to do it:)

I love film noir but would totally suck at this challenge (not a creative bone in my body).

Link to some really great film noir portraits. Be sure to keep clicking "next" at the end of the row to see them all. Terrific stuff in there.

I love this style and would think it would be a great challenge. :)

I suggested that same idea a couple of months ago. They never listen to me, oh wait, yet they did (landscape in portrait, portrait in landscape)

I love the film noir idea. Then they can say "it isn't too dark." ha ha ha

Here are my two Noir's. This would be a fun challenge in about a month or so as I think many people may be burned out on B&W after the recent challenge.

what's Film Noir exactly? Dark mood? Old-fashioned?

I don't have any venetian blinds, or a gun for that matter.

I like this suggestion but I'd rather see this one pushed back a bit since we just had a self portrait challenge not to mention the portrait in landscape challenge.

Of course I'm probably being a bit bias since I don't do well in portrait challenges. Also, there's a small part of me that says lets prevent people like Qart, Cindi, Judi, Arti-Elvi and the rest of you guys who are great at this sort of thing. :P

Well, you've got me really hooked - i'm totally blown away by some of those images - I really want to have a shot at this style, but I have no experience of studio work whatsoever - any advice on what equipment / setup would get me started ? ... I guess i'd need some kind of (trans)portable lighting set-up that could be used 'on location' - Any pointers whatever would be a real help... please assume I'm a total dummy on studio lighting - you cannot possibly talk down to me!
Thanks in advance for any guidance on this...

I think Louis could nail this one.

He's got an eye for noir. Check out his portfolio.
