So i have an idea for a shot but dry ice would be required. anyone know where or how to get it?? looked online and its drawing a big blank. Or can anyone suggest any other way to make that kind of mist/smoke look i need?

Dry ice can be found at most ice houses. Although a fog machine (which can be bought online fairly inexpensively) are more convenient and less dangerous.

CO2 from melting dry ice can cause death if used in a poorly ventilated area.

yeah i know fog machines are safer but its a kind of one off shot, and i need the mist to come from a glass so i figured it would be easier to dump a little dry ice into a glass with some water than to by a dedicated machine.

Ahh, ok... so we're not talking about a lot of dry ice anyway...

Your best bet is to call around to local ice houses.

We can get dry ice here at our local grocery store. You have to ask for it though.

Our local grocery store sells dry ice. We bought it once to transport an ice cream cake an hour away. Of course, you'd have to have good ventilation. The dry ice usually comes with a warning sheet.

not sure about grocery stores here stocking dry ice, well in scotland anyway. searching for ice suppliers or distributors and theatrical suppliers though.

If you can't find it at the grocery store..try a fish house. They might have some.

Also places that sell welding gasses will carry dry ice.

Easy, any Ice Cream store local or national chain/franchise.

A local Mitchell's Ice Cream ships its' product anywhere in the US.
It will keep things frozen for 12-24 hours easily and make Fog for Halloween cauldrens and punch bowls. Just don't touch it with bare hands or try to lick it like the kid touching a frozen-pole in the old "Christmas Story" movie.

Another option is to buy a small mister/fogger made for plant arrangements or halloween props. They are extremely small (~1.5" in diameter) and cost ~$15 US.

This was how I got the effect for this photo:

It was very subtle for this shot, but i toned it down, and it was in a large pot.

Really depends on what you are planning on having in the glass, how big the glass is, and if you can clone out the small cord.

Try to find some liquid nitrogen. Would work great.

Baskin Robbins and ice cream stores should have it also
