Yesterday at 17 votes I was at 6.8235. Now at 70 votes I'm at 6.1857. Sounds like a big drop. But if you do the math, the last 53 votes have averaged a 5.98. I like it when I get a 6, so I think I'll stop worrying about it.

The voting trend for this challenge has been really weird. Usually on the first morning I'm disappointed, and then the score rises to where I'm happy. Then it plummets on the second day. This time, I woke up really happy, it rose a little and then plummetted. Maybe day two will be messed up, too, and it will rise today. Yeahm sure, who am I kidding. I'm guessing 5.9, at best, by the end of the day.

Look at the past challenge's scores and judge for yourself.

Figure it this way:

5.5 is the midpoint between 1 and 10. Someone once figured out that the average vote here is around a 5.3.

So yeah, 6.1324 is pretty good.

In general, anything over 6 is a nice score. A lot of people would weep for joy if they scored 6+. Anything over 6.5 is excellent. Anything over 7.0 is simply outstanding. It's almost impossible to score 8+.

I am weeping over my score, but not tears of joy. 5.1 baby!

As a matter of interest, what's the highest score ever to have been achieved on DPC?

Bear_Music already answered you, but here's a link to an excel spreadsheet. There are some "quirks" with the way the spreadsheet has been created - it has cell validation which doesn't work very well. you enter the data in the green cells and instead of hitting enter move to the adjacent cell. This works. If you hit enter (in the avg vote received column) then you get a validation message. Hope this makes sense.

Thread with link to an excel spreadsheet

salmiakki,

Thanks a lot for the link!

I had already managed to make a spreadsheet of my own, but this one has more features! I'll take a more careful look at it!

That would be me, and possibly others. The score I had was 5.3 for member challenges and 5.0 for open challenges. I need to redo it one of these days to see if there's been a shift, but I suspect it wouldn't be much.

I now have two 6+ scores going at the same time, for the first time ever, so I'm having a happy day!

Speaking of which, to all Americans out there, Happy Thanksgiving!

You want trends baby? You can get down and dirty and not miss a beat!

I normally do this--well, most of what you mentioned. I graph my running results, but I capture the data manually. For example, here's a graph of my personal best graph for Pier without Peer:

Grrr!! so I get a comment "DNMC" then tell my why. I mean it would help to know their perspective on my shot.
Holding a 4.5 now

yep, got the same comment. Guess it's just a matter of personal "perspective." :)

I've recovered some of what was lost yesterday, but don't think it will get much higher than now. Better than my average, much better than I thought it would be, but significantly lower than yesterday morning. :/

c'est la vie.

What's "DNMC"?
11/24/2006 04:36:14 AM · #195
DNMC....Does Not Meet Challenge..... They think the image that they are commenting on, doesn't suit the challenge, so they then put "DNMC" as a short cut, but it would be nice if they also gave a reason why they though this, as well.....

Thanks, Sherpet!

I was getting only 5s and 6s, which for my first challenge sounded pretty good. Now I just got a 1 from a grumpy voter that didn't even leave a comment! Come on...

To all voters, the perspective of the lighting in a photograph creates a DRAMATIC EFFECT. Understand that. Maybe the composition isn't so perspective but the perspective of the lighting IS.

For isn't a photograph a capture of light, If a perspective lighting technique is used, Then there IS a dramatic effect... Please for the sake of other photographers; vote, also, according to the perspective of the lighting and not only according to the perspective of the composition.

24 hours later, I see that I was wrong. Happily.

The last reflection challenge also mentionned to creatively use a reflection without mirrors and without having the camera show.

Now have a look at the winners. I have to say I'm still a bit bitter after seeing my picture did worst than one that had the camera showing in it, and it just goes to show that you can't expect voters to vote like you want them to.

It is also hard to expect everyone to understand your point of view when you take a picture of a concept. You only have the title line to try and make the voter understand what you intended to shoot.
