I love the background but keep wondering why the picnic table is the main subject? I think the fisherman in the early morning fog is far more moving and interesting than the table. The black & white is fantastic though! But welcome, you'll learn a lot here! 8o)

Hmmm.... I like it.
I'm a beginner too, so can't give you technical reasons for my opinion, and it is just that- an opinion, so take from it what you will :)

I find, as it is, that my eye tends to stop at the picnic table, but if I scroll a bit so it appears cropped just at the base of the table (removing the dark chunk of foreground) then my eye more easily slides along the leading line of the tabletop, straight to the fisherman.

I love the mist, and I think the empty table adds to the feel of peaceful solitude. :)

same here I like the table, and I like that its a different kind of shot with the table their as the main subject and then the fisherman in the background with the mist. It makes it really interesting.... :)

Just a little tonal adjusting and a sepia filter. Brings out the details to me and gives it an antique look. Hope you don't mind the edit.

lil' too much, IMO. Quick pass of USM after resize was probably all that was needed.

Sorry, but I like his original much better. The softness suits the subject, IMO. Yup, just a touch needed :)

Thanks for the comments i am glad you like. I see what you mean about the sepia filter but i found that i liked it without alot of alterations a more subtle look.. When i took the pic i went for the table as the main piece with everything else behind, so when you look up and around you start to see things appear through the mist....

Good work and good call making the table the main subject. I find it makes the fisherman in the background more interesting. To me, it gives more of a candid feel.

BTW, I swear I saw the fog move... I probably need to go to bed :-)

This was the second one i did on the same day as the fisherman and table. But this time added a duotone affect and slight lighting.. i was going to add noise but thought it looked very silent... peacefull looking.

Great photos, both of them!
Aside from what everyone else has said I feel that in both pictures the horizontal split across the centre of the photos, is a bit too centred leaving both pictures just a tad static. In both pics the sky is featureless (without clouds) and doesn't really add anything to the photo, so why include so much of it.
Maybe a crop to exclude some of the sky bringing the horizontal up higher would help, but even better would be at the time of taking the photo, get lower to the ground and/or angle the camera slightly downward would include more of an interesting foreground and less of a sky that is featureless and add nothing to the shot.
Or come back on another day where there are some scattered clouds just to add some interest to the top of the frame.
Nice one tho, I love the softness, adds a dreamy dimension and sorry but to JamesKW who posted the sharpened edits, you WAY overcooked the sharpening, looks horrible IMHO.
