Almost every DSLR owner also has a P&S camera. Therefore, few people would be excluded from this suggested challenge. It would be interesting to see the results of an open challenge in which ONLY photographs taken with P&S cameras are allowed entry. DSLRs sometimes have an advantage in DPC submissions. Let's see what happens when the tables are turned. |

Pffft, 99% of good photography happens behind the camera anyways so bring it on, wouldn´t change a thing... |

You have got a good sense of sportsmanship and that's what counts, Mr. Larus. I see it the same way. I guess almost every entry would be actually in focus for a change ;-) |

And just to insure there is no discrimination ... a challenge that outlaws P&S camera also ;)

3mp AND has a broken battery door. I could nail that challenge.

What is the definition of a P&S camera?

Most important feature is that it has a fixed lens (one that can not be removed)

Not necessarily. The Olympus E-10/20 are true digital SLR cameras with a fixed lens. Can't use sensor size either since the Sony R1 has an APS-C sized sensor. I suppose "camera without a TTL viewfinder" might work. |

That's exactly why I was asking...I own an E-20. Would the definition of a P&S be the opposite of an SLR? That is a camera that does not use TTL metering? |

I'll go for the definition of "cannot use raw". My 20D can't use RAW if I leave it on full auto...
Either that or we could have a phone cameras only challenge. :) |

Using them is normally the easy part. Getting the photos onto the PC is the tricky bit. |

Woohoo! I can use my old stupid 3.2M Canon A75 that causes extreme grainage!!! That would be a cool challenge... If I win I will be in trouble though... I just spend over $2000 on DSLR stuff. My wife would not be impressed if I won with our "perfectly-good-little-camera". This would just prove her right! hahaha!
Am I the only one here that has to beg the little woman to get new equipment? There's a lot of power in those small lace-panties! hahaha!

Ok. I'll admit, I pointed the lens at my face and took a photo with it when I first got it (and no it didn't break, har-har). Then I had to did thru various levels of menus to figure out what to do with it (like delete it)...considered it a pain in the tail novelty item. BTW, how DO you get phone pics onto the PC?! I guess if you have BlueTooth or something maybe? |

Either that or a USB cable. Otherwise I think you can email them from some phones, but that would probably be fairly involved. |

Timing is everything! You just need one decent print/stock sale and then point out how much more you could do with that new lens, etc... This process involves a lot of prayer..."Come on, SELL dangit! I need some new lighting equipment".
Be warned - you're probably in big trouble if an actual comparison of expense to revenue is ever requested with this plan of action. :D
BTW. What WAS this thread about again? :P |
