I'm voting on the last challenge available. Just gave out my first score 3 or less. I decided to comment on any image I give a low score to. A pop up window came up and reminded me to comment....GREAT ADDITION TO THE SITE!!!!....I must of missed the change....Great job guys.

I just voted some 3's on the headwear challenge and didn't get any popups. The photos I voted on were pretty good, but I wanted to check it out. Sorry guys who got the 3's; it's not your fault.

j/k I changed my votes.

You do realize that you can change a vote after you've made it, right? After voting on any number of images, you can see an overview of every image you've voted on and the score you gave it and you can change it.

EDIT: ok, nevermind.

Quick check. I also didn't actually give the shot a 3, was just testing.

Ok, so the pop-up window comes up after you've already entered the low vote, and the voting process has already skipped to the new window. So, in order to adhere to the pop-up window suggestion, you must first click to close it, then click again to go back. If we must have an annoying feature, can't it at least be easier to use?

I see some rampant vote inflation ahead.

Cool.... I just checked it out too and this is an excellent addition. Makes em tell ya why!

I figured this would be the solution to the so-called low voting trolls. In all honesty the images probably deserves low scores and without constructive criticism we can never become better photographers. I know, since my images suffer from low scores. I come in at the last 50 images of almost every competition. I am grateful for anybody to tell me why my images suffer so terribly!

I think I try too hard to please others and leave my good images behind, but then again maybe I see life as an abstract, since I paint abstract art for a living and my eye leans towards large objects. I dunno!

Thanks for all your comments though.....I really appreciate each and every one! It's fun, I keep plugging along.

I agree. I do like the idea so perhaps when the popup shows give the voter an option. For example, "Show me the next photo" and "I want to change my vote".

I'm gonna go vote some 1's and 2's just so I can see that new message.

I just got the message, and I had posted a reply.

Yes, you get the message whether you leave a comment or not, I guess because the other important part of the message is not to leave a low vote because you think that the entry breaks a rule.

I'm glad to see they implemented it on both ends of the scale...

LOL.

I don't like it, I rarely vote low without saying why but I still don't want that thing coming up, especially since Germaine said she left a comment and it came up anyway. I expect alot of scores to be inflated while this is around, for those deciding between 3 or lower and dealing with another checkbox over a photo and a 4 and moving along, I imagine many will do the latter. Does it come up every time you vote low? If it was for the first three low votes I could see it, but if there are those who just vote low, it seems like voting will be affected towards higher scores. And those that consistently vote have very little effect on the winners and those that are supposedly trolling aren't going to comment although I would love to see this comment pop up.
"I don't want this photo to win so I gave it a 1" Atleast its honest LOL. Ok its late I need to go to sleep.

There should be some additional verbage that reads, "are you trying to say this is better than Langdon's eight ball shot?????" :P

Perhaps what Art joked about should be added? That way both the low and high end votes are effected. Then again I hardly ever leave a 3 or less and rarely give out 10s so I'm just speaking for myself. :P

Ken, that's why I changed my vote on your submission from a 10 to a 9...
I guess Langdon don't love you that much after all.... :p

I figured you were joking but had to go check it out on a photo I was already going to give a 10 anyway just hadn't done it yet..... Ha Ha. you are such a riot Art!! Guess it comes with the territory when your a dad again at your um.. young age...lol
11/20/2006 04:13:36 AM · #22
hmmm, well I guess this means we'll all be getting higher scores b/c many "trolls" tend to be too lazy to write comments for the low scores they give.

There's gonna be a lot more 4's...just wait and see.
11/20/2006 04:29:31 AM · #23
Well I was being a bit facetious - I think it should be implemented at both ends to be fair. I also think it should just pop up on the image you gave the 1 or 10 to, not on the image following the one that triggered it.

I agree that all this will do is inflate the scores overall - especially since it includes 3's. So... thumbs down as implemented, IMO and FWIW. Not that I don't appreciate the effort and the willingness to address these issues. :)

I forgot to add that to my post, I agree with what Ken said. :)
It looks like it only does this the first time you give a low score, that isn't so bad, atleast it makes the voter aware of that fact you should comment.

I agree that forcing people to comment for 1-3 would probably result in inflated votes.

Unfortunately I'm not seeing that on my current image ;)
