Last weekend I was taking some pictures for a band. I was using a canon 10D and a Canon 1Ds simultaneously. I had 4Gb Ultra II Sandisk CF cards in both cameras. About half way through the concert the card in the 10D died, and I got an error 02 on my camera. I retired that camera for the evening and just used the 1Ds which happily shot the rest of the evening.

When i got home to download the images. ALL the images on the 10D were corrupt and half the images on the 1ds were corrupt. It seemed something happened at the concert or maybe magnetism from the speaker??? or i am not sure, because ALL the images on the 1Ds were corrupt after a certain time in the evening, and all images before that time were ok.

It is also odd that the pictures from BOTH cameras and cards became corrupt about 20 minutes after each other. Very strange. Has anyone ever had this happen to you? Any way to fix the corrupt images? I have run a number of file saving programs on the cards, and the cards find the images, but they are still corrupt.

tough luck dude
Never had that problem before but i'd guess it could well be some kind of electromagnetic interference

good luck with rescuing the images!

Leaf.. Hmmm strange.. very strange as a couple fo years back I was shooting a battle of the bands competition and I found that I too had lost all my images. I initially put it down to the cheap CF cards I used, I didnt really think about the magnetism from the speakers.. Might be worth asking BobsterLobster if he has experienced it before as I know he spends a lot of his time shooting live bands.

Do be careful with the fog/smoke they sometimes use though... it's really bad for your cameras.

Never had it happen with 2 cards at the same time, but last month I had an entire card corrupt with WEDDING images on it! Recovery programs found 5 images, terribly corrupt, so basically, NO images were recoverable. I used 4 recovery programs, and talked to the card manufacturer, and 1 of the program manufacturers, and they basically said there was nothing they could do that I hadn't already done.

That's the first time ever that I have had problems with a CF card. (It was a Ridata CF card, BTW)

*edited for clarification.

ouch. that is painful. It sucks enough having concert photos down the drain, i would not like that to happen at a wedding. Perhaps a reason why not to invest in 8gb cards. It is a pain switching cards, but if it becomes corrupt, ALL of the images are at least not lost.

Was it a paid wedding gig, or just personal photos.

Sorry to hear. Haven't experienced that since I used my 10D a couple of years ago. I had two 2GB microdrives go bad then. Never seen the problem with my 2 and 8GB Sandisk Extreme III cards.

Oh, and I do mainly live music photography. :)

my lexar 80x 1gb cf died after i shot some pictures at a party. the card couldn't be reformated... i'd never experienced any issues with speakers... i've shot around small-ish speakers like Mackie SRM450s and never had a problem.

I had to go through lexar, who spent a couple months trying to recover my images, which they eventually did. My card apparently went to the highest and final attempts to get back my pix. They replaced my card. I thought that it wouldn't happen with Sandisks, but i guess everybody is just as fallable.

Good luck!
