I recently purchased PSP Photo XI, even though it seems that everyone else uses Photoshop. I couldn't afford Photoshop and hoping i won't need the elements that are missing in PSP. Anyway, i've been reading about today's 24 hr challenge and learning about HDR (new to me!). Just wondering if anyone knows how to get this effect with PSP XI, and w/o buying the special post processing s/w?

I have no clue about PSP XI (I still use a version before Corel bought it) but you can get the program (minus the tone mapping option) online. I'm sticking with the free until I can get better at it, I'm fine with the watermark since I'm just playing for now.

Have you seen this thread? It has some great sites for tutorials and links to the program I mentioned.

Good luck.

thanks for the link. It increased my learning a little more and as Martha would say.."that's a good thing".

I already have PaintShop Pro XI. Trying to learn how to use it and was wondering if i could do HDI with it or would i need to buy photomatrix or some other added s/w.

anyone with experience using PP XI out there?

Paint Shop Pro X here...

I have neither the skills nor patience to try and create the HDR effect using tools available within PSP X. I went ahead and purchased the Photomatix software around a month ago. Since I shoot in RAW mode and can convert to TIFF files it's fairly easy to do. Not sure what the process is with JPG only files. I imagine there are other methods/software out there but have not pursued them.

As for PSP X (or XI in your case), you made an ok decision there. There are quite a few DPC'rs using PSP for post-processing. ursula and gloda come to mind. Take a peek at their profiles and you'll see that PSP vs PS hasn't limited their results any. Of course it helps to have a fantastic image to start with! :D

thanks for the links glad2badad! It was encouraging to see some great results using PSP. Also, I had not read any of the interviews before and this led me to read Ursula's interview which was terrific. I love this site!
