You are gonna get arrested for arson for posting that ;-)

I might loose my Canon 'friendship' pin.
Still it's just their opinion and she says they both take great shots.
It's all in what a person likes in their hand and what they owe on their Visa.

Let's compare the Full Frame Canon 5D to Nikon's Full Frame camera.

Oh wait, Nikon doesn't have one.

Nevermind

But it doesn't tell you that more Nikon's go in for service then Canon. Ref. to all models. I'll try to find the stats and post them.

Just buy a damn camera and look at the scene instead of the logo/name on front of it.

Second that. Unusually wise comment for a Nikkor (l)user. ;D

anyone else notice that she said noise in the nikon at high ISO is BETTER than the cannon? thats a bit of a change in the traditional standings.
11/03/2006 05:27:25 PM · #14

Yeah, cause that's relevant to the current comparison video or discussion at hand...

Canon deserves to lose that for the sole reason that it doesn't have spot metering.
11/03/2006 05:51:19 PM · #18
I'm embarrassed for that girl...

That was one of the lamest side by side comparisons I've ever seen. Still I had no idea that the XTI didn't have spot metering...what's up with that?

11/03/2006 06:10:09 PM · #19
That was for the masses,

the spot metering has always been a problem. Did the 20d even have one? I know the XT didn't.

The lower noise has always been a processing thing by Canon before, Nikon's figured it out mostly, but dpreview.com shows there's a loss of very fine detail on the D80, but a hairs difference it is. Pathetic that it took them this long, really.

High ISO noise seems to be a thing of the past for Nikon, thank God.

Is the D80 an entry level camera like the XTi or does it compete more with the 30D? Seems to be priced just about exactly between the two.

The review seemed quite slanted, there was no mention of the dust reduction features of the XTi. There was also no mention of the 3200 ISO on the D80. What other important points did they miss?
11/03/2006 06:36:46 PM · #21
Cnet does average camera reviews IMHO. Okay for computer geeks but not meant for photographers.

Try //www.DPreview.com or //www.DCResource.com or //www.StevesDigicams.com all vastly more detailed and consistent.

The Nikon D80 sorta sits between the Canon Eos400D and the Canon 30d. There is a Nikon D50 remember at the XTi/400d level.

I didn't get to see how it ended because all I could think was .....Hmmmmmm, she's kinda cute............hmmmmmm a little annoying though........I WANT TO SLAP HER FACE WITH A RAW FISH!!!!!

Spuds... yeah.
11/03/2006 07:41:43 PM · #24
Apple and Oranges.
the 400XTi is a high end consumer body, the D80 a semi-pro model. The D50 is closer to the 400 in the marketplace and product positioning IMO. Compare the D80 to the 30D is you want to compare something.

Of course neither company makes this easy as their models don't directly compete against eachother in price, and one has to consider price when making purchase (well, almost everyone and those that don't care about price aren't comparing any of these cameras).

Kodak DCS Pro 14n uses a Nikon F5 body and has a full frame sensor.
