Buy cs2 4 Mac or Wait 4 cs3? - DPChallenge Forums

As I now have a Mac I require Photoshop for it. Does anybody have any idea when CS3 is coming out and if there is likely to be any major improvements. I currently have CS2 on my laptop but am really getting sick of PP on it especially when I have my new beast sitting there in anticipation ;)

Just get it or wait?

any feedback would be great.

If you have a newer Mac with an Intel processor I would wait for CS3, so that you can take advantage of the extra speed.

I heard at the Apple store when I bought my mac a few weeks back that it will be out in early January or early next year.

Usually when Adobe are about to release a new suite (it happened when they went from CS to CS2) They offer a free upgrade.

Ask your nearest Adobe office when this promo will come into effect.

Also, on a side note, some retailers may not be aware of this, and try to sell off CS2 at a cheap price. This is when you, the user, would swoop, then get a free upgrade sent to you!

Apparently, if you read the licensing agreement (at least the one for the CS2 Education Edition), somewhere in there it say you can install it on more than one personal computer, provided that you don't actually launch the program on both machines simultaneously.

edit: Here it is..."The primary user of the Computer on which the Software is installed may install a second copy of the Software for his or her exclusive use on either a portable Computer or a Computer located in his or her home, provided the Software on the portable or home Computer is not used at the same time as the Software on the primary Computer."

So if your laptop is a mac, you should be able to install what you have already on both machines. If not, it's a pain in the butt that they don't put the windows and mac versions on the same discs...

i don't think you can upgrade cross-platform, but you should be able to run WinXP in Bootcamp on a new intel Mac and use your Win copy that way.

I too heard January 07. I would definitely contact Adobe about the cross platform switch. Sure they could work something out.
Otherwise I would wait for CS3, or with new Intel Mac, run it on Bootcamp as mentioned, or look into what the lowest PS you need to upgrade from, buy that on Ebay and then upgrade.
I bought PS 6 for like $60, then was able to upgrade to PSCS (that was a while ago) for another $150. SAVED ME SOME MONEY.

I know of a few people who switched platforms and took exchanged their license. It's not an upgrade, but merely a platform switch, I believe the cost is minimal, if it costs anything at all. The point is that can be done now and the upgrade can come whenever.
