Usually when I go out shooting there's one particular tune that rents a good deal of space in my head. Occasionally that tune guides my eye. This was the theme last week, that played softly in the background. I realized it fit most of the subject matter I'd shot over the last two years so I put the music and a group of images into this montage.

(play at "Original Size" for the best quality but no bigger than "Double Size")

Please give it a look. I hope you enjoy.

Steve.. I had been waiting for something like this from you..but didnt know thats what I was waiting for until just now...
What a wonderful collection, and tribute to the many people that embody the spirit of what NYC is.
As so many of the pictures came into view I sat there with a smile on my face.. thinking oh I remember that one, Loved that one, wow these are brilliant, the cat one made me laugh yet again.. I've always loved how you are able to capture the vibe of the city. The music you added fits perfectly as well.. nice work!!!

Thanx for the replies.

I'd love to see other people do some of these. Find a song that best fits your mood or a feeling you get from a group of images in your portfolio OR more of a Challenge... Choose some music and shoot a set of images that fit. BTW, PhotoStory 3 is free and easy to use.

Shecoya-Glad you likeee. Not sure if you know but Peter was the inspiration to do these in the first place. It's all his fault. He turned me onto PhotoStory3 and it was all downhill from there. When are guys coming to NYC. Let's shoot, let's eat, let's drink, let's be merry!!!

Next, Still Crazy After All These Years or Rudy, A Message To You(The Specials)...stay tuned.

Very Very well done. You've got some great images in there. I wish I had half the vision and talent you are showing here.

I especially love your ability to catch "ordinary" people and make them extraordinary and force us to actually SEE the people most ignore.

Great stuff. At first I was viewing it at the "fit to window" setting, and it was extremely pixelated. Then I reduced it to "original" size, and it looked fantastic, although very small.
Anyway, those are some very nice photos. I was particularly struck by the quality of light in many of them. And the candid moments you caught are very engaging, rather than dull and boring. Excellent work.

Thanks for the replies and the PM's. Ther smaller window looks best because I haven't figured out how to match things for a larger view.

I used a Mac program called FotoMagico which is a little better than Photostory3, it costs $79. PS3 is free, of course. Most of the Mac slideshow programs that were free totaly blew.

I'm looking for some shooting inspiration so I might try to shoot around the song "Rudy, A Message To You" by The Specials. It's a Ska tune so I think Brooklyn or The Lower East Side will provide the people and backdrop to match. Not too easy to shoot but it should be fun and it will give me a lot to think about.

For my style, it's the best Challenge I can think of.

Fantastic Steve! Really enjoyed your images. I love NYC and cannot wait to go back with my D200, hopefully next year. You have really captured something special and you have some of the best of NYC...and considering you are only 7 years old ... ;-)

bump with a slightly better look. It seems that Google compresses the files but this version looks a bit better on a larger screen. Still the best quality is at "Original Size".

Higher rez version

I'd love some feedback from the comment crowd.

Truly awesome, Steve. Somehow I felt as though I was there, in the streets walking around your "patch" with you and sharing the music as the images unfolded. Lyrical pictures: great execution: kudos.

Hi Steve,

Firstly brilliant job on the slideshow I love street photography and enjoy your work. I have been looking at doing something similar with a few "themes" I am working on. I run mac, would you recommend FotoMagico? was it fairly user friendly (as im no cumputer guru)?

cheers

I looked around the net passively for a week and found nothing good that was free when I finally came across FotoMagico and I tried the demo version. It was $79 and I really wanted to do the video that I posted so I dropped the cash without thinking and so far I'm plenty happy with the results. The few good programs that I've used on PC were all very intuitive as this program is. The free mac stuff that I was able to find blew chunks. There might be something better out there but I couldn't find it and iphoto's slide show program is pretty rank imo.

My best advice...try the free demo. Can't go wrong that way. If you have any questions please ask away. My pleasure to help.

Have fun and post-up what you get. I'm excited to see what you're up to.

Cheers!
