My nikon D70 won't turn on. The batteries have been charged... I have tried both batteries thinking it might be a bad battery. The green light flashes at the bottom on the back. The menu will come on for less than a second and go off but nothing in the control panel illuminates and it won't take a photo. I tried taking the battery out and leaving it out for an hour and that did not help. For the last 3-4 times I have used it the green light flashed for 10-15 minutes but then it would start....I was wondering what was happening but when it started working after the 10 minutes I sort of forgot about it and just took the photos. Last night it never started working and all day today I have tried and it won't work. It will be two years old in December.... any ideas. Any thoughts about what might be wrong? Does this mean I get to buy a D80 opps, I mean have to buy a D80 (my husband might read this!) |

d80? not really... just means you have to go a week or 3 without your camera while they fix it...

Personally I'd still go get a new camera but, wow kudzu, how'd you know that? Did you google? or do you work for Nikon? |

I think as a bonus when you send in your camera they will upgrade your sensor to the 10.2MP that the D80 has....

Sounds like the "Blinking Green Light of Death".
I had that on my 1st D70. When I called Nikon, and explained the problem the tech said, "Ah... the blinking green light of death!" I sent it back to Nikon and they fixed it up for me.
There is no hope or any other way to fix it... they have to do it.
*edit to tell you that they didn't upgrade mine to the 10.2MP. I got it back just as I sent it... minus the green light*

When I first got the BGLOD, they dismissed and denied the problem. I started combing the net and "The Nikonians" and found more with it. Some were getting fixed, others not (for free). They were going to charge me $216 to fix it, but finally waived that, after "threatening" them. :)
The thread about it
