I would like to use the Photoshop CS2 filter extract to extract an object from a background. I made a copy of the background layer and have that active but the filter extract menu option is grayed out. What am I doing wrong?

I think the Extract Tool only works on 8bit images. Have you converted to 8bit from 16bit?

Thank you - that worked. This is my first attempt at a montage and I need much more practice.

I beamed Mr. Pumpkin from in front of our garage door to the Jersey shore.

Pretty solid seam job. One tip I will give you that I have found can really help is to subtly alter the apparent lighting on the subject to match the apparent lighting of the background or environment around them. This can be done a number of ways, such as using dodge and burn and even simple gradients on very transparent layers. Often a different blending mode on the layer also helps to create the sense of depth in the lighting (ie not just a flat gradient you through on the top layer).

Thanks, he does look rather pasty.

This is a slight curves change-I probably need to go a bit further.
