How about a military hardware challenge? Ships? Military planes? Uniforms? Anyone else in the Bay Area ;)

Depends on what bay you're talking about :)

I'm in a predominately Navy town and personally, I'm ex-Air Force -- I'm sure I could come up with SOMETHING military. Now if I still lived in the middle of Oregon or someplace like that, finding anything military to shoot, or um, photograph would be difficult. If I lived in Iceland I would imagine it would be impossible. (Assuming, of course, Iceland doesn't have much military? Of course, what would an American know about the Icelandic Military? I'll tell you from personal experience: Diddly/Squat!)

Or something inspired by the military. Camoflauge, GPS, Hummers, Jeeps, Nightscopes, etc.

San Francisco Bay Area. Blue Angels here this coming weekend for Fleet Week.

Halloween weekend might be good to have a costume, uniform, your countrys' tradition wear, work outfit, etc as a speed challenge.

Sounds great, 'cause everyone has police, fire, emergency medical, etc. I like it! I predict LOTS of fire engine pictures.

I personally would love a challenge like that, even though I'm living in Iceland, and we don't have any Icelandic Military. But instead we have a Naval Air Station here thanks to NATO. They have a couple of P-3's, usually 4 fighter jets, usually F-15, but these days they have also a couple of F-16's.

You can see pictures I've taken of such jets at my site
These are only pictures I've taken in the last 2 months, got lots of more on stock.

women in uniforms could be a cool challenge;)

military is not that good of an idea coz we still have a few countrys in the world that dont have an army ....

I think the idea of a military or uniform challenge would be great. Good opportunity to practice portraiture.

I guess know one likes the "Military Challenge" heading. Maybe if I start another one with the word "Uniform /Costume". Hear the Blue Angels outside practicing ,gotta go.

Military challenge is good for those who are near a base or have family in the service. I have no base near me, best I have is a Navy recruitment office locally and that isn't saying very much. Only thing I have left around from my husband's military days is his worn sea bag.

This challenge would not only let a lot of people out but it could also be very touchy! Also most military won't pose in their dress uniforms except for family portrait purposes and I sure as heck am not going to be the reason some elisted man or woman gets court martialed cause I upload a photo of them for a competition and they didn't have permission for the photo to be used in such a manner.

Same issue as the military, I ran into it during the America 24/7, when I wanted to photograph a police officer, they wouldn't sign the release for it cause she had to have permission from the cheif.

Genericize (I'm making up words I think) it all the way out.

"Uniform"

Lots of different ways to go there.

A military challenge sounds nice, but those shooting the pics have to be aware of giving away security info....it's called OPSEC...It's just a good idea to be careful during war where many countries are currently involoved or planning to get involved.

I'm in the bay area, Chesapeake Bay. I wouldn't mind a challenge based around Military. Pleny of installations around here. But we must be careful as they are more sensitive than ever about being photographed because of the threat of terrorism.

Hey coolhar! I did my military training (School) in Edgewood. It would be hard for you to get on post. Thats why I suggested a uniformed service challenge. Maybe take pictures of Police, Fire, EMT'S and so on.

You could always try the front door. Explain what you are doing, ask permission and see what they will allow. Prolly could get plenty of cool shots with no hassels.
