Ended up mostly aligning with the general consensus on this one. Did have a couple of surprises.

For example, my top pick didn't even make the front page. :(

A few others that finished a little farther down than I thought they would.

- 33rd
- 39th
- 50th

It's amazing how creative the DPC community can be when given a challenging subject like this to photograph. Great job everyone!

Do you have any surprises from the Woody challenge? Some of favorites come up a little short? Post them here. Please - refrain from posting your own entry. Let the spotlight fall on others as you see fit. Thanks.

Most of my top picks were in the top but here are a few that I thought would score higher:

44th place? I gave this a 10

83rd place?!!!?? I gave this a 9

A few more that scored above 6 but I still thought they would place higher:

amazingly high scoring challenge and most of my top picks actually scored over 6 for a change.

At least one photo was totally robbed, though it's not too surprising:

and this was one of my 10s that scored at the bottom, but I can't honestly say I was surprised:

Thanks g2b!

I'll echo one you've already posted and add a few more:

was my only 10

was sure it would make top-ten

this one, too - but not really surprising, at least 20 people (1s and 2s) found it offending, which it really isn't

Yep, I had that one also picked as a top ten. Still, 17th is not shabby. :D

Wow, I've never gotten one of my photos pimped in these post-challenge threads.

I marked everyone's comments helpful, even those who hated it. I knew it would be dnmc going in, but I just couldn't resist and I figured for all anyone knew there might have been a woody (a wooden woody) under the sheet. It was interesting to see the feedback, both good and bad, and I had a fun week watching the various comments come in. Thanks to all!

Maybe you can try this in bokeh, but you may not have any better luck.

It's a shame that so many voters couldn't get past thier personal biases to give this photo the vote it deserved. Technically excellent and probably the best lighting in the challenge.

It's already been posted but here's my choice. no not suprising it didnt ribbon or anything but I am suprised even with so many 10's it got such a low score. I was the only one to fav. it though. i'm a little embarrassed about that now. but I do maintain that it took a ton of bravery to submit it and that I applaud.:

Thought these should have scored much higher...

19th 27th 41st

and one of my score 9 picks I though would do better:
23rd

The comments on there seem to be suggesting that if you didn't vote this photo high it's because you're "uptight". I'm really pretty far from uptight. I'm so laid back I'm practically as horizontal as the chappy in this photo, I just didn't like this. Why not?

Well, first off, there was practically no focus. I could get a bit of an area for my eyes to stop on roughly on the bottom-right edge of the sheet, but that was it. The rest was hard to look at (excuse the pun, nothing to do with the subject). Other points?

There was no woody. There could have been a woody (of various sorts) under the sheets, but, to be honest, a lot of other people managed to actually get the woody into the shot. Should I reward the humour of this shot over and above the humour of other shots that actually met the challenge? I think probably not.

Lastly, I think that for a humour shot, the lighting is pretty low-key and sombre.

So, pretty much, I found it to be an amusing shot, but just not that great. So I gave it a low score. It's nothing (for me at least) to do with being anal and uptight.

I didn't think anyone who low voted it was uptight. It was risque subject matter and that's not going to sit well with everyone and that's fine.

The focus thing though. The sheet is in perfect focus. You do not see thread by thread detail on a piece of cloth if it's not in sharp focus, sorry. DoF was specifically chosen to draw the eyes to the 'woody' and blur out the feet a bit. These were conscious decisions on my part. I honestly don't know what to tell you if the only part of the picture that looks sharp is the bottom right corner of the sheet.

Lighting was another conscious choice. Give it the look of a dark bedroom. The sort of place woody tends to wake up...

Sorry you didn't care for it!

Maybe I used the wrong term there really, because, yes, there is focus, what I was meaning was focal point. Like, I wasn't really sure where to be looking in the image, if you see what I mean?

Heck, what do I know anyway? ;)

I wanted this one to win, and I am in no way suprised that this belongs to Art. Only he would have this many Woodies. What is up with those woodies with the rings around their middles?

I think Art needs one of these: //www.dickblick.com/zz216/23/

This is one of the few challenges where my rankings were about the same as everyone elses.

These are the only other 2 that I had as top 10 images that did not make it (underrated IMO):

They sort of mimic spinal movements.
