Hi everyone,
Do the results (i wanted to say "opening for votes) of the "Urban Landscape" open challenge will be posted tonight? It's 11h here in Winnipeg, and I'm wondering at what time they will be posted. Any clue?

| It's done by server time. Look at the bottom of the page for the server time and date. |

I know. I'm not a big vote-down person if it doesnt meet the challenge, but "urban" and "landscape" speak something to me. lol

how about "Shoot anything with buildings - from cities to villages"
That could be a little train village or a lego stuff.. Hell, it could even be a book with pictures of buildings. Just depends on how you decipher it. |

| I agree. Shoot anything with buildings pretty well spells out the intent of the challenge. I think pretty much every shot in there is "on topic." |

what is with the rampant literalists on this site? mavrik is exactly right...urban landscapes...two words urban, and landscape...regardless of what the description says the challenge title couldn't be clearer
if you're going to use any building to fit the challenge, it needs to have the feeling of a city. plain pictures of buildings with no urban or landscape theme are a total stretch. it's the intent of the challenge, not having people pick one word out of a description and have at it. of course you're entitled to submit that type of thing, but don't complain when you score low for not meeting the challenge

| Yeah... its not so much the smaller buildings that bug me, but that many aren't landscapes at all. |

Wow, I'm the literalist for saying the challenge is open to more things, and you are the open minded voter saying that you can't even include the challenge description when considering what the challenge asks for? That's a twist. |

I noticed this. There are a lot of buildings, but buildings are not necessarily landscapes.

what i'm getting at is mainly the second half of what i said above. how can someone honestly submit a picture to an 'urban landscape' challenge that is neither urban or landscape? you can achieve both in rural settings if you find the right situation. but we've gone through that type of challenge. |

| i think this gets at the same thing that doing a school project gets at. you can fulfill the requirements by shooting a building, however, just like in school doing the minimum doesn't get you high marks. also there has to be some element of common sence; one building in a field is not urban. |

you know, i have no idea...
mine is not doing that great either, even tho it's a scape vs an abstract of a building ..
which, btw, i also shot, and which i kind of regret not entering now.

Not necessarily, but they can be. If I'm shooting a landscape shot of the wilderness, must I have two mountains to make it a 'real' landscape? Can't I do a relative close up of a large boulder? Can't I shoot a picture of one tree? If the mountain implies a mountain range, or if the tree implies a forest, I don't see the difference. One building can imply a city, and many of them do in the challenge.
If I see a building in a field, with nothing else around, and the artist has inferred some kind of irony, I'll give that one high marks, too, if it is shot well. |

i thought there was a fairly well defined genre known as 'landscape' photography that was pretty different from closeups.
