There are a lot of non-woody shots in the woody challenge too. Some people don't read challenge descriptions, some don't speak english so misinterpret the challenge, and some just like submitting something! lol

Well the challenge titles weren't worded that well, IMO. The titles should have been something like "Rubber Ducky" and "Artist's Mannequin (i.e. Woody)". I think it's been proven over and over that people don't read the descriptions so the more descriptive the title the better.

Thanx.... Thats very true b/c I often comment when I notice as well as give a low score.

Not meeting the challenge isn't grounds for disqualification. Some people (like me) will give it a lower vote. Some people vote 1 on them all, some people don't really care.

Personally I like to reward those who meet the challenge.

Some of the photos in ducky are very creative, which is ++ points in my view.

Agreed. The Woody Competition entries are pretty good overall. I can't say the same of the Ducky competition.

Yes I agree but hey I look at it this way if its bad or good enough some one will say so eventually lol so i think I am average. KWIM?

KWIM...yes, I think so. But based on my finishes in some of the other challenges, it would say that my entries were WELL below average yet they got few if any comments. Actually, my entry in Unrelatedness was a funny concept (to me) but was a very flat/bland image which I knew going into it. How it got my best score yet of 4.7 I'll never know, but that was in the bottom 8% of the entries. Guess how many comments.....1. The "I don't get it" which surprised me as the commenter had a little one at home too.

Agreed like I said before I am new here, I am just trying to get a feel for what goes on, I have to say I seen some really cute pics in the Ducky comp very humorous, as well as the woody comp. I am enjoying this even though I have a low score on my ducky. lol ty again

There are a lot of non-woody shots in the woody challenge too. Some people don't read challenge descriptions, some don't speak english so misinterpret the challenge, and some just like submitting something! lol

Yep, if you are clearly a DNMC, you get severely punished on my scoring chart regardless of how great the actual shot may be. If your not going to follow the specifics of the challenge, you should save your shot for the Free Study. I find it insulting to lose to entries that were obvious DNMC entries. When I vote on them, I'll praise them for the good shot, but I'll state that they DNMC and score them accordingly.

I understand language barriers, but how do you misinterpret?:
Include a rubber ducky in your photograph this week OR
Include a Woody in your photograph this week. Note: A woody is a wooden stick man.

If they don't take the time to read the challenge and follow it they warrant a low score when they fail to meet it. To me the #1 important thing on a challenge is to Meet the Challenge #2 is to follow the rules of editing and #3 is to have a good shot.

Totally agree with you!!! It is frustraiting when you happen on a pic and there is not one sign of the challenge. I actually found myself looking for the image that was the reason for the challenge and well realized it wasn't there. I think it is for sure warranted a low score. But it makes me wonder if my comments go unread.

A lot of people ignore the descriptions and that goes for both voters and photographers so my suggestion is to have better titles. I don't get why the title only said "Ducky" instead of "Rubber Ducky". With the latter you wouldn't even need to have a description.

I think it's a very fair point you make regarding the challenge title (Ducky to Rubber Ducky), but other than the description being two lines beneath the challenge title on the challenge page, the description is the first line you see (beneath the greyscale) when you go to submit the photo so you have to try really hard IMO not to see it. I think DPC has done about all they can do unless they have to remove the challenge title and replace it with a sequential number that you would be forced to look at the details if you want to have any clue as to what the challenge is about.

For photographers to be so meticulous (in general) on their photos, I have a hard time going with the 'we didn't look at the challenge detail" approach. Just my opinion and why I generally give 1's if they didn't even come close to meeting the challenge unless the image itself is just awesome in which case they might get a 3.

How do you all get so many comments? Last challenge only found one comment. This challenge has none so far.

So, what does it mean when someone adds your pic to the wish list?
10/11/2006 07:01:11 PM · #121
You get 1 wish granted by the DPC council I think...

For someone to add it to their Wishlist basically tells you that they want a print of the photo. It is a compliment.

Well, I just finished voting the Duckies, and will move over to the Wooded area next.

This was a totally delightful Challenge to vote on. So much fun and creativity went into most of these images.

My score? Oh, we won't go into that right now. I want to keep my good mood and chuckles going.

Sweet! Now, why would someone add my photo to their wishlist, then NOT GIVE ME A STINKIN' COMMENT?!? It's driving me nuts! Two challenges in a row!
