you click on the "add to friends" link found on that persons profile.
Sometimes it's worded differently or difficult to find, but it's on there somewhere!

Nope, never got into it.
People my age tend to use it as a social commodity tool. Splashing drunken images of them and their half-naked friends all over, therefore making them "cool." Collecting "e-friends" is the new fad. I can not endorse this. But of course I am not saying everyone abuses the network this way.
