Do you have all the folks you need already or what? Wanted to join but seems as tho folks are way occupied. What up? Got time for a brief explanation & one more cool cat?

Hi all, I'm Rina

I've been a web designer for 10 years. I can hand code HTML and CSS in my sleep, and usually do :D (I know that sounds geeky, but actually, some of my cleanest designs have come from dreams). It doesn't help that I'm married to a programmer, so you can imagine what our breakfast conversations are like!

I have two children: Alyssa, 16 and Max, 7. They don't understand their parents.

My husband Laurie got me hooked on photography about 4 years ago, when he bought us our very first digi p&s, Canon PowerShot A75. He'd been well into photography for most of his life and I just thought that "Great DoF" was an obscure reference to some part of a woman's anatomy. We finally stepped up to the A620 last year as well as getting the Pentax Ist DS and haven't looked back since.

I've been a member at usefilm.com for over a year now, and I've grown in leaps and bounds during my membership there. I've been somewhat type-cast as a toy/humour photog and so have been roped into an on-going story centered around Spiderman read the comments if you get an opportunity, they're hysterical. That alone has been and will continue to be a fun challenge for me, but in recent months, I've come to realise I should be challenging myself more. So here I am at DPC. I was having my doubts about renewing membership, but WPL3 Team Femme Fatale has put a stop to that :)

I haven't developed my own style yet, but I do know I'd prefer taking wide angle land/seascapes over portraits. Unfortunately, unlike Aimee, my landscape seems to be bombing in Free Study :( I don't believe there's anything wrong with it, but when compared to the abundance of super WOW images there are, I don't stand a chance!

As I write this, it's currently 10.30am, Tuesday 3rd here in Auckland. Which means a lot the time that you guys are active here, I'm most likely horizontal, and vice versa. Don't worry if you don't hear back from me right away, I'll check in every hour or so during my day to catch up in case I miss something :)

Cheers!

Natalya, sorry about your foot, how are you keeping?

Hanae -- Your worst english is far, far better than my worst Japanese. You are doing great!

talj -- Geo-caching is a treasure hunt of sort. People hide "things" and then let other people know their geographical coordinates using a gps (which I have just forgotten what the g, p, and s stand for, duh). It's explained here

timfy -- nards is very, very busy at work, and doesn't shoot a lot. That, and I think he got frustrated with his challenge entries. He is a perfectionist and it drives him batty to not get a picture exactly like he wants it.

my name is jude and i live in colorado. i have son who is 20 and doesnt like to work. a daughter that is 18 that is going to university of new mexico. my youngest is 9 and she has multiple disabilities. before i had her i used to be a mechanical engineer. after she started school i went back to school for photography. i do mostly non-profit work but would like to improve my skills so i am looking forward to being on this team!
10/04/2006 11:30:08 AM · #192
jude -- I'm 35 and i don't like to work either. :) I saw a t-shirt the other day that said, "I thought I wanted a career, but what I really wanted was a paycheck." My husband is a mechanical engineer, currently, though from my limited understanding, he does almost as much electrical engineering as mechanical.

You're site is cool. You have some great shots in there!

i used to work for fedex and did alot of project management and some operations research (very nerdy). well my son is about to be homeless since you cant make rent if you dont have a job....maybe i should pay him to pose for me....hahaha
i hope they dont start wpl3 on the woddy or ducky challanges, i am not motivated by those at all. i am trying to come up with an idea for my faceless portrait.
thanks for looking at my site. i am more of a pj shooter so setting up shots is hard for me.

I don't think wpl3 will start for at least 2 more weeks. They haven't finished season 2 yet (woody/ducky are the championship, I think), and then there will be a short break before we actually start.

hiya ladies !!! What an interesting group of incredibly bright women I've the pleasure to have teamed with. Again, ty ladies for taking me in :-) I'm surely not worthy of such partners :-). Okay, I'm Sonya. I've 3 sons, Daniel (age 20) and a Sophomore at Mississippi State University (who stinks at present in football like my pics..wahhhhhhhh) Nathan (age 18) who is a Freshman at Hinds Jr. College and just enlisted with the Marines for 8 years (please pray for his and all the worlds safety) and last but not least, Michael (age 13) who is my invetro child. He's a "baby louise" in a flat dish not a tube :-)

My undergraduate is in accounting, my masters is in education, and hopefully my specialist with be in educational administration/leadership. I've an accounting practice that is open Jan - April; I teach fulltime; I take sports shots for all 5 district schools at least one night a week, sometimes 3. We've 3 donkeys, 11 goats, 1 horse, 1 dog, 6000 more linear feet of fencing to run and a masterpiece in the making.

I tend to tred the "untraveled path" which gets me killed DPC style. I AM the 'weak link' of our team as far as avg to date. However, I take better pictures than I did 2 years ago. I've the 'eye' SOMETIMES it's just that "time" factor with the PP knowledge that is killer. But 8 hrs last Friday with Bert Monroy and I'm now a whiz (cough choke cough some more). I actually spent 8 hrs in awe and don't remember how to do a THING lol.

I promise to try my best to do you wonderful ladies proud and if the awesome logo is any indication of our future...LOOK OUT DPC...

Hanae I'll be praying for your prompt return, when chosen, to England. Natalya I'll also be praying about that leg. However, way things go from threads....we might just see a "cast" challenge..LOL

Love to everyone on the team and part of DPC. God bless you all,
Sonya

** edit to add, I hope to goodness I've gotten the mediocracy (sp?) and the crazy scores behind me by time OUR challenges start...this darn high contrast from 7 to 4 and everything between thus far...lawddddddddddd

did I mention I'm SOUTHERN?lol and often type in dialect..sorry

That's okay, I read in "southern." (I live in Western North Carolina).

Here's what I'm *planning* on doing.

I've added each of you to my favorites to keep up with you. After a challenge is over, I plan on going back to each of your shots and leave a comment. Not that I think I am just the end-all of photography-ness, but I do like to leave opinions.

My purpose? I seem to do better on my own pictures when I am making a concerted effort to comment on others. Also, my pictures improve when I get feedback from others.

Sounds like a good idea to me Karma! I enjoy commenting on images and like you I feel it helps me with my own photography. I have added you all to my favourites and look forward to making and receiving comments when the challenges end :o)

sonya i think i have the lowest avg! i tend to shoot in a non-dpc style so i will try to conform a bit more (i did in the unrelated and have a 5.4 going on. i am a big commenter and love feed back too so i will appreciate hearing from you all.
i am fairly good at photoshop if you have any q's i might be able to help.

okay I'll be redundant...what AWESOME women I am lucky to be teamed with :-) wooohooooooooo

and the 'nonconform to DPC' is me for sure...sometimes I wish I had 2 accounts (WHICH I DO NOT)..one for DPC eyecandy images and one for MSDT style..lol even tho the more I learn about PP the more I appreciate the time, and knowledge PP users acquire.

I've oil painted, and watercolored, and and and and..you know us gals, jack(ette?) of all trades, master (mistress?) of none..lol

but i do love the arts and would love to supplement old age with some freelance work and perhaps help some kids fall in love with photography.

ANYHOW, we'll step it up and do our best and win, lose, or draw we'll have made some killer new friends :-)
