What's the word on the floor about the Canon 40D?

I went on the 400D bus tour, where everyone on the bus got their own 400D (until the bus ride was over) and we drove into a large group of old abandoned buildings. I can tell you what i think of the 400D;
I have used the thumb weel for so long now, first the 20d and now the 5d so i dident get used to the four butten system (not during the bus ride though). I wasent able to se any of the pictures i took on the screen, but overall it seems like Canon is going the right way.

I'll be going to Photokina on Saturday. It is my first trade show. In general what can I expect?

i was planning to go there because im interested in the Leica models
than i found out the entrance-fee for just one day equals the cost for a year membership here in dp
maybe im a lil out of this world but i think its a rediculous entree-fee
cant see why people should pay for getting interested into buying 'their' stuff
now found myself a dealer where i have coffee for free when i have a closer look at Leica's models
will be missing the M8 primeur tho
oh wel cant afford that one anyway

Go to, say, Frankfurt Buche Messe and you will find that the entrance fee is way higher. If Photokina is only a year's worth of DPC, it's cheaper than the majority of trade fairs. However, I'm glad to see you choose DPC over photokina ;-)

Just for the record, the entry fees to these things don't go to the exhibitors. They go to the hosting organization, usually a department of a municipality. These large convention halls are all built with public money, and they are under a lot of pressure to maximize their revenue stream and make a substantial profit. Food prices are typically outrageous too.

The "high cost" of trade shows, auto shows and the like has never much bothered me, anyway. Have you seen what you pay to visit, say, Sea World or the San Diego Zoo lately? The way I look at it, it's pretty cost-effective entertainment if your idea of heaven is checking out the latest gadgets and lenses and cameras and software and such :-)

If you purchase the tickets online, the entry fee for Photokina is 19 euro, 12 if you go on the first or last day. To me it's worth it to avoid the lines.
