Here are just a few of my flight outtakes that I wouldn't mind some opinions on. I would also like to see some other peoples outtakes, so that I can compare how my usual photographs compare to other peoples that we don't bother to submit.

Thank you for any comments that you all leave, and thanks for anyone who shares their photos with us all.

Wow. Some really good stuff in there. I think '28' would have been a definite contender!!

Here are my own flight outtakes. Dont worry they don't give away my entry.

Which of these should *I* have submitted (I'm sure I submitted the wrong one)?

I really liked heron_3 from your selection. I also liked my 28 (As you mentioned), but I *hope* I chose the right one...

Nice work! I especially like the photographs with the birds taking off so to speak. A little different from the every day bird flight photos.
A little cropping and etc and they could make a nice photograph.

Did you get any photos off the swans for Pitsaman and me(LOL)?

Nice work also!

I did not find King Kong in this photo (tip_of_monument.jpg)? You must have arrived to late.

LOL

But seriously I do like the "sillhouettes03.jpg" very much, great capture.

[confused]swans for Pitsaman and me???[/confused]

I must be too new here -- never mind.
I like swans fried personally, but prefer beef a thousand fold :)

I also like the heron_3 photograph... i think it's the better submission candidate of those.

Here was my runner-up. I realllllly wanted to post this one, but it was a tad blurry so I went with my girlfriend's suggestion and posted another.

Thanks magnetic... I hope so too! It's not doing too bad so far, so we'll see!

sn4psh07, I think I like #18 the best. I really like the white on green... Makes the bird stand out. #12 would have definitely been my favorite if the bird would have been nice enough to fly the other way!

Rainer, I had to hold off on the reply because your shots looked heavily processed at work. They look a heckuva lot better at home. I'm with the ultramagnetic one in liking #28 a lot.

Mag, herons are *so* played out now ; )
Seriously though, I really like the silhouette shot.

Jason, I am so glad you didn't enter that shot! I really think the wow factor would have blinded most voters to the blurriness.

Here's mine. I would have gone with the last one were it not for the blown out tail. Can anybody ID the bird in 'Passing Over'? Some kind of heron?

Pitsaman (Kosta) and I are big swan fans.

This is his great collection:

yeah i was afraid of heron backlash :( ... so i didnt do one this time ..

I'm wishing I had entered the sillhouette now instead of what turned out to be a 'too common ' subject..

for yours i think it would be a choice between passing over and touchdown.

I didn't really consider touchdown that much. I don't think I could have caught it at a better moment, but it's pretty much just a picture of a duck, not that much more to it. Given a nice smooth blue background I'd have entered it in a shot : )

Time Flies Color

Time Flies B&W

These are completely different from what I entered and I'm thinking, no, make that I KNOW I made a mistake but the clock isn't really flying, it was staged to look like it was and I wasn't sure if that was really within the boundries of the contest. I didn't feel right about it I guess, felt it should be something in actual flight.

The idea is great, but the staging could use strengthening.
What about tying the clock to a rope, or putting it on a wagon, so that it can be moving. Then pan the camera with the movement of the clock and create a motion blur for the background.

For a DPC-illegal treatment to check this out, you can create a mask and apply a blur to the background. I can do a rough example of this if you're unfamiliar with the technique.

Could you? I have so much to learn with the editing side and the photography side!

I'll try to post something tonight.

OK, it was a lot quicker to make a "rough draft" mask than I thought.

This is the general idea: Time Flies

I used a somewhat similar effect on my entry for "The Future" challenge, except I used a radial blur to give a sense of motion in the Z-axis (towards/away from the viewer).

I really like that! Now, could you tell me the steps you took to get that? And you said earlier it wouldn't have been legal for the challenge?

I LOVE THIS!!

When I first saw it I had the illusion that the bird was UNDER the water, the reflections are great! I would have given it a 10!
