Post your outtakes from the A Single Tree challenge here.

I tried for over an hour to post this, but it wouldn't go through. It's frustrating to have a busy network at the wrong time. Feel free to let me know how you think it would have done.

Didn't go with this one because I thought there would be too many like it...

entry :

outtakes :

the first one is actually from a reshoot of the same tree i used in the last free study. this time, as i was shooting it from the road, the owner of the land the tree is own came driving up on a trail bike to find out what i was doing. very nice lady. she invited me to go anywhere i wanted on her property, so long as i mind the gates and don't let the cows out. that's where these other two came from.

the entry is from a completely different farm...

one of the few challenges where i wish i'd used one of the outtakes instead of the entry... oh well... at least i beat doc sneezy... ;)

This was the original edit of my entry. I decided not to go with it because of the white specks on the tree that wouldn't turn red. It is a very vibrant and eye grabbing image, and perhaps I made the wrong decision by just brown toning it as an entry.

This one was very much going to contend for placement, but since I told stare_at_the_sun I would do black and white, that particular style did not work for this photo as much as the other one.

My outtake. Really, the picture before I used the "negative" effect.

Too bad you couldn't keep some of those cloud details in your edited version that you entered.

Couldn't decide which perspective I liked better - I ended up flipping a coin to decide which one to enter.....

Outtake 2:

With the outtakes I was going for a bokeh effect which I would probably have enhanced using PS but ended up finding a better shot at Lake Monger.

my entry

the layers palette

the unedited original

the outtake

there are quite different opinions, wether the entry needs more or less saturation, wether the OOF background is good or bad, wether it was a missed chance to place the windmill between the branches or it was good to resist the temptation to do so. "Someone" even said, the picture needed tweaking with levels, curves etcetera. It took me 2 hours alone to separate the tree from the background with the lasso tool, not to mention the process of adjusting colors and contrast. Was it not worth the effort? Comments, please!

Please enjoy a Single Tree outtake ala Gary Larson's The Far Side. :)

"It's not enough to have no idea, you must be unable to express it, too." When I saw eyewave's signature I thought to myself, I am so grateful to be on a website with an individual of such rare insight and depth, and add to that great HUMOR! Thank you very much!!!!!!! :)

The outcome of your efforts is nice. The original shot is nice. If you like the final better than the original, your two hours was well spent.

I was in the camp of the windmill should have been framed by the tree. Close your eyes and pretend I am kicking you.

Thought I'd play with this one a little; hope you don't mind :-)

There's a lot of potential locked up in that image...

If I had managed to join in time I would have posted this one. I have much to learn so any comments will be very appreciated.
