Well I could really use some solid advice here :) I love photographing small children and usually do so with a black backdrop. But today I desided to do something different and use a grayish type. In some of the photos I ps'd it pretty white, but not I don't really like the sterile white as I feel it has no depth to it. What do you think? Is the black one just better? Anything that could go better with editing? My resources are very limeted and both the black and white backdrops are cheap material, lighting is just a single flash + natural light and I just have no L lenses, so I don't need coments on stuff I can only fix with money :P

So here are a few of the pics, feel free to tear me apart, I can handle it :)And note I'm just an amature not a pro, not charging anything:)

Very nice. I'm amazed at how good your focus is, given the shallow DOF and the likelyhood that the kids are *not* sitting still. :-) The lighting looks great, and I don't mind the white BG at all. These all look lovely. Any parent would love to have pictures of their kids like these.

#2, 4, and 6...really seem to capture the babies' personalities. I think they are all beautifully done, but those 3 stand out to me as having a great combination of a professional and very natural capture.

Edit to change baby's to babies'

These are some great shots! I like the pose on #2, but the far eye is out of focus.

Really like the first 4.
Can you share what post processing was done?
Also what were the exposure stats on these?

Also, the white bg works. Maybe partly due to the child's light skin tone.
It gives off an angelic feel.

good work!

Thanks for the comments :)

Well post processing was basically curves. A bit of cloning in some of the photos and I used channel mixer for the black and whites :) I don't even know the exposure stats, heh i usually just play around with the settings untill I find a light that I like. Also I try to have the shutter speed low as I like a good DOF rather then a super sharp whole image :)
