I will be travelling to Denver this weekend and will habve some free time on Sunday afternoon and after 5pm on monday and tuesday (I'm working during the day). My hotel will be in the airport area and I will have a rental car.

Any suggestions on where I can go to shoot? Interest in architecture, cityscape, landscape and street/city life.

Any food/restaurants recommendations would be great too.

Thanks.

The most interesting buildings to shoot are the airport terminal and the Denver Art Museum. Take a look at Westword for some ideas for outings and good food recommendations. If the weather is nice, consider heading out to Red Rocks in Morrison and visit the amphitheater.

A couple of my favorite restaurants are Red Tango, Panzano, Red Square, and most especially Buenos Aires Pizzeria.

Edit: Oh yeah, the best city life people watching is on the 16th Street Mall. Rather picturesque, good mix of city folk and tourists, interesting shops, lots of skyscrapers, etc.

Try the Downtown Aquarium, Red Rocks of course, and the Botanic Gardens. I spent many hours in the Art Museum when I lived there many years ago. Enjoy!

The actual art museum isn't open until October 1st thanks to the remodel, but the new building itself is really awesome. Daniel Libeskind is the architect.

Karmabreeze- I had dinner at Red Square. I must say that their stroganoff is probably I've had, ever.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Denver's architecture and building interiors are fantastic.

Sorry for interrupting this thread, but everytime I hear "shooting in ..." I think that people are posting a news thread where some people got shot (with a gun) in that location.

lol

Revisiting the Denver thread.
We are getting ready for a trip to Denver/Boulder (too early for the GTG).

I am trying to read the other threads posted regarding this area...but, was hoping to get specific info.

1. Can anyone advise where we can get great cityscape shots? When we went to San Fran in '07 - I got great advice on where we should park (Marin Headlands, for example) to get a great bridge photo.
So - any names of locations where we can stop for safe & legal views of Denver?

2. Suggestions on local favorites for shopping, dining (we are more looking for casual faves of locals - nothing fancy). I check Yelp and other online forums - but wanted to hear from more people.

We have plans on seeing Red Rocks/Ampitheatre, Garden of Gods, Pikes Peak. Convention center - as we have a conference there. Hopefully, the Stanley Hotel. Also hoping to hit the Cinco de Mayo celebration and a Pow Wow.

Thanks for any and all suggestions!

Broadmoor Hotel. Interesting history, good shoot. You'll be going right by it on the way to Pikes Peak, it's not far from Garden of the God's also. Have fun.

Hey, I don't know when you will be in Colorado Springs but we are having a zoo GTG on the 23rd of this month (see this thread)and would love to have you join us!

We could also set up a Garden of the Gods GTG if you want to meet other DPC'ers.

Another great place for pictures is Glen Eyrie. But it's best to call first to check on their availability since they are a closed conference center and have limited access.

Here are some pics I have taken at the Glen:

plus almost all of my bighorn and deer pics in my portfolio.

Here are some Garden of the Gods pictures:

Thanks for the replies and suggestions!
I'm making notes for our trip.

Unfortunately, we will be coming home right before the zoo GTG. We are hoping to get to the zoo next Monday, though.
Our schedule is still up in the air - I have a list of day trips - just not sure where we are going on what days.

Does anyone have a good location for the Denver skyline shot?
How about a good Denver airport shot?

I'm getting excited about the trip!

Where to shoot from - for Denver skyline & airport?

The skyline you may be able to get from the Denver Museum of Natural History (example here), it is shooting towards the west, so could get a good sunset shot, too.
DIA, I think just going up Pena Blvrd is going to be your best chance. Take the East loop around to the east side, might be a vantage point out there. Maybe up on top of one of the parking garages, too. Or you could look on Google maps and see if there is a backroad out there somewhere to the east. There are farms out there...but then ya gotta be careful who sees you....YOU PHOTERRORIST!

Tracy - thanks so much! You gave me some great starting points. This will definitely be a help.
