I'm trying to take some photos of my fathers's products which are knitted with a combination of regular yarn and Lurex (metalic shiny yarn). I have no idea how to get the glitter shiny material to look anywhere close to realistic. Obviously monitors and printers can't show reflective silver and gold colors very well, but there has to be a way to do this.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

jewelry and other reflective metals are often shot in a light tent - the onlcy reflection is white and the light is very soft.

I suspect contrasting suitable backgrounds play as important a part as lighting and reflectors.

Well, I imagine in this instance that you'd want to show some glittery highlights, so a light tent may, or may not be the way to go.

I definitely give a light tent a try, but for your purposes, making some more dramatic light could heighten the viewing experience.

What kind of equipment do you have available? Strobes? Flash? Slave flashes? Anything? 500watt halogen lights?
