Has anyone had any dealings with this outfit?

They seem to have tremendous prices on camera here, but just doing a little homework before taking the plunge with them.

Thanks.

Be careful....have never heard of them, but you might try the better business bureau website to check them out.

I have not heard of them either, I am considering buying my new camera through Butterfly Photo, I found them through pricegrabber.com, they seem to have the highest feedback rating compared to their competitors, I have to admit I am a little leary of these companies. Has anyone here ever done business with them either?

I just checked them out, they have the camera that I am planning on buying for more than $200 less than the place I was going to go through, I also checked the Better Business Bureau and they've only had a few complaints in the last twelve months, but I'm still hesitant, it almost seems too good to be true. I'm planning on ordering tomorrow...decisions...decisions...decisions...

$200 less? That is quite a bargain....let the buyer beware tho. And remember,

"always tell Rick and Earlene if you decide you ain't gonna barbecue!"

....sorry, inside joke

I'm planning on getting the Nikon Coolpix 5700, Butterfly photo had it listed for $737.00 before the $100 rebate and now at digitalliquidators.com they have it listed for $524.00, quite a difference for sure, and definately a difference from the $999.99 that best buy and other retailers had it listed for.

It may be Grey Market merchandise. If it is...NO WARRANTY, no support, no nothing! Make sure you look into them real close, especially if they are they much lower than most other "physical" stores. And call and ask them about it if you can. I have not heard of this one, but heard of a few that were just selling the boxes and then disappeared with the money. BE CAREFUL!

How about you send me your $524.00 and I might think about sending you a picture of the 5700? click

That $524 is quickly going to turn into $700+ in no time. For $524 it's a grey market camera. No legit place is selling it for that low of a price. The price goes up because they're going to practically demand you buy accessories you can get for $20 at other places for $80 or so. And for $524 you get the camera, that's it. No batteries, no strap, no cables, maybe a photocopied manual (with some luck it might be in english too!). Any place that sells it way below what most other respectable places are is just some sweatshop. Do yourself a favor and spend the extra $200 to get it from a good place.

thanks for the link, that is what I was looking for, feedback from past customers, well that makes my decision alot easier...evidently none of those people reported them to the Better Business bureau.

Thanks Matt

That ResellersRatings was just the thing I was looking for.

Saved me a ton of headaches and problems I am sure.

I bought my Canon G5 from Butterfly Photo with absolutely no problems whatsoever. They were ~$250 cheaper than the local camera store and significantly less than most online retailers, many of whom seemed to charge $50 for shipping and handling. Butterfly had free shipping.

I did have to call them to verify the security code on the back of my credit card. I was expecting a hard sell of overpriced accessories, but it never came, just a couple of polite guys that assured me my order would go out the next day.

Guess what? It did. Arrived in 2 days via FedEx ground.

It was not a grey market camera, it was in a factory sealed box with warranty for the US. I would not hesitate to order from them again.

eBay is another option. Right now they have this camera up for bid at $530 with 11 hours to go

go here

The seller has 6598 feedback with 98 percent being positive. Its worth a try. I buy a lot on eBay. If you are careful who you buy from its safer than a lot of regular online shopping.

Newegg.com is one of the best resellers on the web. I have never bought from them myself, but many people I know have, and all rave about them. In addition, resellerratings.com gives them a rating of over 9.0 for the over 5,000 people that have rated them. My nephew has purchased over 2,000 in computer components from them and he's very satisfied. The have a good return policy as well.

Unfortunately, the camera you want to purchase is $810.00. Why don't you consider buying the Sony F717 which they're selling alot less at $685. I think it's a much more rugged camera with superb optics and great color. Good luck in your purchase.

I keep reading that all this places are "resellers" does that mean I am going to be buying a used or refurbished camera? I am under the impression that if I buy from Butterfly Photo it will be a new camera...just need some clarification here.

I spent a couple of hours on the digitalliquidators site last night. They do have some refurbished cameras, but they are listed as such. The prices are astounding, wish they had a buyer feedback or some kind of validation as to customer service. Might give them a call from work...

Follow the above link, It saved me alot of headaches, they sound like a company everyone should stay away from ,like I figured from the beginning, if it sounds to good to be true, it probably is.

I've see spam cons proclaim to be members of the BBB. Somehow a business needing to prove it's legit does not sit well with me.

I think a "reseller" is the modern equivalent of a "retailer". What they sell could be new, gray market, refurbished, or used; and should be clearly identified. I did a lot of online shopping for my last camera and wound up buying from an old fashioned "brick & mortar" store that I found out about on the net. I can tell you that some of the websites sellng digital cameras are nothing more than websites, and many that appear to be independent are operated by the same outfit (sometimes as many as a half dozen sites featuring widely varying pricces). A few tips-- compare by total price (including shipping & handling, etc.) not just the lowest price; a site that lists a toll free number is generally more reliable than one that does not; avoid sites that refuse to ship via US Mail as they may be doing so to lessen the posibility of prosecution for mail fraud.

On a more specific level-- BeachCamera.com is not the same as the Beach Camera store in northern New Jersey, a fine full service store that is not part of a national superstore chain.
