I have been going through the pictures and voting in the challenge. Frankly, I'm a little disappointed. I love many of the images, but it just seems like Rule of Thirds was taken too literally? A bunch of images just seem to be "blank" canvas image in one of the 1/3 corners. I'm finding them a little blah. Seems like some of the creativity is missing in this challenge. Since, I'm fairly new I hope this topic isn't inappropriate.

I think overall people have been doing a rather poor job following the idea of ROT. There have been pictures that, while they have been nice, did in no follow the guidelines set for the challenge. So far my average score given out is probably about a 4 or less.

Looks like the votes you receive as well

Vote cast vs. vote received - looks normal! :-)

The rule of thirds is the rule of thirds. The challenge is to find an interesting subject where this rule is appropriate to apply. That's where the creativity comes in.

Speaking for myself, and maybe others who entered images, I feared the literal minded voters. "your points of interest should be placed on the intersections of those lines." I have read in the forum that a few people have received DNMC because it was on a line rather than on an exact point. I had one image I really loved but I knew I would get DNMC votes due to there being 2 subjects, the secondary one NOT being at a ROT point.

With voters wishing to slam everyone for anything just a hair outside the box, its no wonder images start to be repetitive.

Just wait until Geometry and Chemistry. People may get slammed for ANYTHING not found in a classroom (the title unfortunately contains the word school). I'm not looking forward to that one. :)

You may have it on a point, but it's the WRONG point. I know that's all a matter of preference and what feels right. ;o)

I did so badly on the first attempt at Rule of Thirds, that I passed on this one. It does get picky uni sometimes with challenges like this, which kills ones creativity. As to geometry and chemistry, too bad if you think that dnmc will be rampant because it is outside the classroom. My image is not school related, but I love it. I think it depicts the challenge idea perfectly. Won't say which one it is, but I am curious to see how it is met by the voters.

If people vote DNMC on a chemisty or geometry entry because it's "not in a school" then they should read the challenge descriptions more carefully. Neither detail mentions schools.

For me, the ROT challenge allowed my nerdy side to come through and I went for (what I considered to be) an interesting shape in the context of an abstract background where the shape played with the formality of the ROT positioning.

Naturally, it is not doing well at all! :-)

that's not going to stop people from being literal ... and it's not going to stop people from voting on the literal representation of the photo either.

Well that's fine. I hope they enjoy looking through 156 photos of bunsen burners.

"your picture really ROTs" I guess is a good thing.
