these were the average results on my entry
Average Vote per Commenters: 6.900
Average Vote per Users w/ Cameras: 5.920
Average Vote per Users w/out Cameras: 3.000

I noticed the average vote per users w/out cameras is always a lot lower. Isn't that interesting? things that make you go hmmmmmmmmmmm.

I think they are frustrated and they envy people with cameras.

It may have been only one voter since we don't know how many voted without a camera.

They are not always lower :D

There are far fewer voters without cameras -- especially for the member's challenges. The average vote is a composite of many different votes -- but with the no-camera voters it is often just one vote. What I'm saying is there are not enough no-camera voters to make it a meaningful stat.

I had noticed the same thing. It used to be that the "no camera voters" always voted my images higher than the total average. Now-a-days it seems they are more likely to vote *much* lower than average. And recent problems on the site (with multiple accounts) makes me wonder what's going on?

BUT... like the other examples here, the no-camera average on my image ends with ".000" which strongly makes me suspect it's a single voter. With only one vote... it really doesn't make much difference, so I'm not going to worry about it too much.

But, like you, it does give me pause to think....

This is my picture.

Avg (all users): 5.406
Avg (commenters): 7.125
Avg (camera): 5.386
Avg (no camera): 10.000

Like previously stated... probably just one vote.

My last 4 challenges:

overall vs "no camera"
6.074 vs 5.750
5.571 vs 7.000
6.614 vs 6.111
6.325 vs 6.400

I fail to see a conspiracy here.

well obviously it's different for everybody and now I'll have to go through all my other challenges and see if that's the case with them too lol.

And I didn't think one low vote of 3 would do me in. Would be nice to know WHY they'd vote a 3 and then not leave a comment.

Free study challenge
Avg (all users): 4.854
Avg (commenters): 6.111
Avg (camera): 4.854
comments: 11

Funny how all the people who comment gave me 6.111, but the people who hated it didn't say why. How are you supposed to learn from this site if the people who don't like your photo never comment to tell you why it's bad.

Mabye they should require voters to leave some sort of comment if they leave a low score. I don't know how they could make them leave something contructive, but I know that if someone scored one of my photos low I would want to know why. I try and do this, but I only have a little free time for this.

They already request this. Trying to enforce it would only result in 4 becoming the new 1.
This is already happening to a certain extent I think. I believe that many folks very seldom vote less than a 4 because of all the hoopla about trolls, and the request for comments below 4.

I left you a comment, too, albc.

I try to leave comments for everything below 4 for exactly this reason. I know how much I've learned from comments I've received on low-scoring shots, and I want to pass along that good karma.

I did manage it in Free Study, and also had time to leave some comments for shots in my upper range.

If you don't get comments on your shots, go study those left on other shots. It's a great learning experience. There's a treasure trove of comments on more than 500 challenges to date. Just skim over the ooohhs and aaahhs - they're nice to get but not helpful in terms of improvement. But read the substantive comments on both the winners and the lowest scorers. Also read the comments on DQ'd ones, esp. after they were DQ'd. You'll learn lots of pitfalls to avoid. Many DQs are cool shots (I just added one to my favorites, in fact), but go too far in editing. So by studying those, you learn both what to avoid in a challenge and what you can do for your own pleasure, your portfolio, etc.

Here's the challenge history link. It's up there in the menu, under "Challenges:"

Wow. The no-camera crowd hated my Free Study XII entry so much they hacked into the system and voted zero! At least, that's my average vote from them. ;)
