I was asked a couple of times for the color version of my entry, so here it is. I swapped the color and B&W back and forth several times but felt the B&W was more dramatic in the end. Also the cloud in the top right is burned out in the color version which I really didn't like.

haha...I put in a thread before the challenge that i wasn't sure if I should enter the color or b/w of my photo. I chose b/w and one of my first comments wished they saw it in color. So my outtakes...please comment if you like.

Entry - scored 4.8xx

My entry was a conversion to sepia.

my outakes are all in color:

either way, I enjoyed post-processing them. This was a real Study for me. I'm just beginning to learn.

Thanks for all your good comments.

I self-DQ'd this after the first day because I got a bunch of 'huh?' and 'what?' comments. Guess it's real hard to see the humor...

Processing blows because I allowed myself to be swayed by some threads at the time about peoples' monitors being too dark so I jacked mine up at home.

Completely different to what I entered. Next time I won't leave it to 4 hours before closing time (1am here) before starting to sort out the entire months pictures! :D

Here are some images I had considered to enter:

Instead, I entered this:

Despite score and some comments, I'm content I did.

I favorited your mono, just like I said I would! Thank you!

I love the B&W version. The color one doesn't suck, but the B&W is stunning.

The one you entered was in my top 10 - don't know why it wasn't in everyone else's.

Looking over many of the questions before this post ...

Kudzu: I'm also a little tired of IR, but I gave yours a 6. I would've given the orangutan a 7 or 8. Go retake it for the current single tree challenge, and I'd score it higher for meeting the challenge so well.

Scarbrd: Gave the flamingo a 7, prob would have given the aquarium the same, but it would've been a "higher" 7.

TJ: I loved the redo boa. Voted it a 7, would've given the B&W a 6.

Arancha: Gave your photo a 7, too, because of the colors. I wouldn't have gone so high on your alternative.

Pug-H: I loved how those fireworks morphed with your technique. Thanks for explaining it in your comments. You can really set your shutter to 1/1.4 second? This one looks like an anemone, and without any foreground context, that's what I would've thought it was!

messerschmitt: preferred your entry.

jeanybeany: preffered your entry.

jaded_youth: both are neat shots.

Oops. I hit post too quickly.

I'm thrilled with the result on my entry, but I agonized over which one to put in. I knew it would be from my Alps trip, just not which one.

Here were the other serious contenders. Anyone prefer any of these? Hearing your thoughts on why, as well, as which, will help me in the future. Thanks in advance!

Edited to put the correct link to my entry. Oops!

My Entry:

My entry as it should have been sharpened.

I totally forgot to enter and asked my wife to sharpen the resize. I had already done all the rest of the editing, I just put off deciding which pic to enter. So, something got mis-communicated there on the phone (no PS at work anymore), and I couldn't tell on my crappy work laptop LCD if what I was seeing was right or not anyway. :(

Once I got home I saw the halo's. Se la vie.

well the sharper one is a little better but either one would have gotten an 8 from me. I just found it a visually pleasing shot.

Thanks,

I'm glad I entered what I did, and very happy with the result. 6+ is always good.
