Awesome! Thats a great shot with a that lense. Thats pretty close to what I ended up with my first try with this camera and the lense was a like the sigma you are useing but its canon...70 to 300. Now only if the clouds would go away I might see it again tonight.

Thanks! I was surprised I pulled this out of that lens too. 300mm really isn't that far when you think about it. But the moon is really out tonight.

Nah, I didn't enter that challenge. The last challenge I entered was "negative image"

And if you look, I implyed that I took the image the day I posted this thread which is 9/7/06, after the challenge entry ended.

As it happens I did the moon last night too :-)
It was a wonderful sight!

Taken with an old Nikon 75-300mm 4.5-5.6 @ 300mm and f11.
Shot in jpeg.
Curves.

Thanks, yours looks great too. I was surprised how little contrast the full moon has. I have taken a few pics of it before when it was a crescent. The oblique light gave it a lot more definition. I’ll have a look and see if I can find them. You should definitely have a go at a half or crescent moon!

I soooooo want a telephoto lens. Will have to wait till I upgrade my camera next fall- unless hubby feels like shoveling out 7k from his bonus hahahaha.
great shot.

I have a moon shot from last night posted under the new uploads thread. Looks measly compared to this!

Looking good. I noticed that you used f22, I would try more like f8 with your lens. At f22 you may be getting some diffraction that will rob you of a little sharpness.

Nice, good tip. I was going for sharpness here and am not too happy with the result. I will try again tonight if the moon is still visible.

I found ‘em.

Same lens, same camera. f11, ISO200, different shutter speeds – dunno what though, I’d have to find the originals.

One day I will complete this set ;-)

Wow, what an inspiration... I can't wait until tonight now to try it..

Have you shot any stars with 20-30 minute exposures that leave the streaks?

Not yet, but I'm going to soon. I have been looking at some of the astro pics others here do and some of them are amazing! It's something I'd like to have a go at. Like just about everyone I'm fascinated by the night sky but I've never done anything about it :-( It's my next project though.

We’ll have to wait until the moon isn’t so bright and see what we can do! Share tips and what we discover, if you are up for it.

I’m more than happy with my old lens. It’s from the days when Nikon were under the impression that photographers engaged in hand-to-hand combat to get their pictures. No one could ever say it’s not sharp but I’d love to see more detail in that big old moon. Trouble is it’s about the only time I’d use a longer lens and longer ones cost BIG bucks.

All right then – looks like we have ourselves a challenge. I’m looking forward to this, it’ll be great to see what we can learn. Should we keep this thread going for the updates then?
