I made some changes to forum searching. An advanced search feature is now included at the top of the search results to let you fine-tune your search to get better results. The forum search engine is also getting up-to-the-minute updates now (or at least it's on a 5 minute delay).

Additionally, you'll find that the Search menu option under the Photos menu has *finally* been implemented.

I suspect there may be some intial problems that people will find, so please let us know if you see anything that's off.

Friendly reminder: You can actually use the Keywords field in your portfolio manager now. :)

Fantastic!! I tried it out and it works a 1,000 times better!

ETA: Thank you!

Oh boy both ROCK!

Advanced Forum search ... yay! No longer do I have to go google something on DPC :-)

You kick arse Langdon!

The photo search tool also works great! Just did a search on various landmarks such as "brooklyn bridge" and it worked like a charm.

You have made me so very happy today... I am coming up with a few "this user/photo no longer exists" hits though.

Well done Langdon! :-)

Suppose I should actually start adding keywords to photos now... hmmmmmm

Awesome! Makes me want to go back and keyword everything. :-)

For fun, try typing "out of the box" with quotes and check the "description" box.

Should be fixed now, thanks.

WOW, that is awesome, THANKS!

Fantastic.

Quick question ... how long after change of the photo details does the search start picking them up. That was a bit convoluted. I have added a couple of keywords but the pics are not being picked up in the search. How long before they will be ... or the index is rebuilt?

Like with the DPCPrints search, updates will happen nightly. I felt that the extra overhead for image searching wasn't necessary. I did fail to mention in my original post, though, that forum searching has *live updates* now.

This isn't going to make my boss happy

Thanks Langdon.

Another question. Does the search make the disticntion between singular (cat) and plural (cats) and different tenses (rain, raining, rained)?

This means I should have used keywords, huh. Well, should we ever get a rainy Sunday around here (ohpleaseohplease), I'll type in descriptions on the sorta good ones.

And thanks, Langdon!

After running a search on "hummingbirds", I got both plural and singular tenses, so I gather that it knows to cross-reference, which is nice given the limited text space we have for them.

Good job! It was a long time coming, but well worth the wait. :D

Thank you!

Nice! Thank you :D

Yay!! Fantastic! I like how it gives the name of the challenge it was entered into, if applicable. Helps some of those thumbnails to make more sense if you know what the person was aiming for!

Great job and well worth the long wait! :)

is it just me or do the results show photos in workshop folders? aren't these folders meant to be hidden?

Very cool upgrade!!! Thanks Langdon :))

It should only show challenge entries in workshop folders. And if you've recently moved something to your workshop, it will still show in the search until it gets reindexed (nightly). If you really want to hide something, you'll need to specifically hide it in your portfolio manager.
