Does anyone have any ideas on how to rip a movie from a DVD and put it on my iPod? I know there is software that does it, but which one have you guys tried and do you like it? Most importantly, was it free?

Thanks,
-Jeremy

I haven't actually formatted any videos for the ipods, but for ripping DVD's I use a combination of DVDShrink and AutoGK. Use DVDShrink to rip the movie to a folder on your drive, then set AutoGK to encode it into one file. From there, you might be able to use the Apple software to encode it for your ipod and transfer it.

I haven't even used a video ipod, let alone put movies on it, so I'm not positive about the last part. I think a straightforward AVI file would be a lot more likely to work than a whole DVD, though.
I've heard rumors that the ipod Nano will be updated this month, hopefully that'll have video (not that I can afford one anyway, heh)
