I missed the discussion.. but went through the posts..Looking out of my window the colors look great !! Although the winds yesterday have blown off the leaves in the north.. region around Buttermilk falls should be beautiful!

Finally a DPC GTG I am attending! :)

Anyone, thinking of coming but having second thoughts as they don't have a place to stay .. if you need a place to crash on the floor, you are welcome! PM me!

Man, the winds are going to kill us. Forecast 10-20mph winds tomorrow. Argh...stupid weather.

So what's the consensus on meeting time in the morning? I'm all for getting the good light.

I am thinking of getting there as early as I can..sun rises around 7:15am - upper side of the falls (near the lake) should offer some great views! The road after buttermilk falls .. Sand bank road, is a beautiful drive to the top!!

I'll probably try and get over there around 7 (I live 2 miles from upper buttermilk). I personally think upper is the prettier area. See you then.

I thought we'd meet at the lower end because it's easier to find. I was already thinking about carpooling to the top and walking down, rather than going up and down. We can talk about it in the morning and see what everyone thinks.

I've never actually made it to the top part yet. I'm looking forward to it.

If it's cloudy you may not get a nice sunrise. :-)

Sometimes you get lucky and the clouds don't move in until after sunrise. Here's hoping for you guys! I'll be along as soon as I can to join you all!

Forecast just changed to partly cloudy on Saturday (woohoo). However, gusts to 25mph tomorrow are going to cause problems. Ahh well, I'm looking forward to pickin up some tricks from others...

The winds in the glens aren't usually that bad since the high walls keep them in check.

I am soooooo jealous that you all will be there and I won't! But I'm coming up one of these days, one of these days, one of these days...!!!! (soon)

(Post pics when your done so I can ease my homesickness a bit.)

I might be interested in getting there early for a sunrise or fogrise. Can you tell me how to get to where you will be?

Thanks!

If you come up 96B from downtown you'll get to King Rd. Make a right (there's a sign there that says upper buttermilk) and go down about a mile. The parking area is on the left. Send us your number if you want to meet up early.

Getting to the Upper Buttermilk Falls :

from Cortland (or North of Ithaca) - Take 13 South (all the way to Ithaca and continue) (also called Elmira Road after past Ithaca), after passing Ithaca and after you cross 'Home Depot' (on your right) lookout for the signs for Buttermilk falls. Take a right on 'Sand Bank Road' and follow the map above

from Elmira (or South of Ithaca) - Take 13 North and lookout for the signs for Butter Milk Falls. 'Sand Bank Road' is the just before you hit the Buttermilk Falls road. Follow the map!

Spots marked with 'red circles' are beautiful places for a great landscape shot, curved roads, beautiful trees, wide open land!

Thanks folks. Off topic: Is there a way to do that markup on Google or are you editing the bitmaps? I've been looking for a map system that lets me point out stuff!

I used paint! .. but if you look for directions from one place to the other it will mark in the blue colored lines.

To pin point a place, you can try using Google API //www.google.com/apis/maps/ (never tried it myself, but I have seen websites use it. For tutorial on how to use //www.econym.demon.co.uk/googlemaps/)

Vikas, when do you plan on getting to the park?
10/13/2006 11:33:32 AM · #121
around 7:00 to the upper park.

All this talk about the beautiful area around Ithaca & Syracuse is making me a little 'homesick' too. I lived in and around Syracuse for some years (a looong time ago), still remember the gorgeous fall colors and occasionally get back that way. Rarely in the fall, though.

I'll be looking forward to the pictures from your shoot.

Awww man, ya'll are going early? I'm so not a morning person...but if by some weird chance I'm wide awake and ready to go (hah!), I'll be there early as well...

I'm leaving this to the last minute as usual, but I'll try and get to upper buttermilk falls for 7am or so. I'll definitely be meeting up with you at some point tomorrow though - and the weather is looking more promising all the time!

I'm in Cortland now and planning to come for the 7:00 session. But breakfast isn't till 6:00, so I may be there around 7:15 or so, depending on how long of a drive it is (or if I get lost). If you see someone in a dark blue accord looking lost, that will be me!
