I've seen commercials for whatnow.com but I'm too scared to go there.
Anyway, I bought one of the cheapest lenses and the mount broke when the camera was dropped (PLASTIC MOUNT!) ...
It's a Nikon 18-55 ....
Anyone have any suggestions?
Am I hosed ... up sh!t creek ... SOL ... etc. ?

Perhaps a metal mount would have held, but something gotta give, and a body is (usually) more costly than the lens.
sigma 18-50 2.8 EX or tamron 17-50 2.8 SP. $400-450, tons better than the kit lens.

Just so you know it's not 2.8 throughout the range. In fact it's only 2.8 up until about 20mm. It ends up at 4.5 on the 70mm end.
That said I've heard nothing but good things about it.
Here's a nice review of it.
