Well here comes another hurricane. 1 year to the week the Katrina strike and we have the "cone of probability" positioned directly over south Louisiana for "Earnesto". If this one hits hard, we are done!

I'll keep you posted and let you know when I leave town.

They are saying it should weaken before it hits. Lets hope thier right. I spent the morning pulling out water soaked carpets from my sister-in-laws house. She was pretty lucky, it only ripped off half of the roof, the nieghbor next door had nothing but a foundation left. Was sobering and scary to see how violent mother nature can be.

Yes it is still being built ! It is about 90% complete. However, although I'm still living in New Orleans...my new home is 40 miles north of here and is a staggering 47 feet above sea level! I am currently sitting at my computer at 5 feet below!

I was really hoping for a quiet hurricane season... things are still tore up here in Mobile from Katrina. Hell, things are still tore up from Ivan.

Isn't that like hoping that the moon won't rise? Inevitably it will happen, right?

Last time a Hurricane hit New Orleans was in '65 when Betsy came through. Flooded some areas. I'd say if 80% of the city flooded for Katrina, Betsy flooded about 10%. It was 40 years between.

Sorry, referring to "Quiet Hurricane Season". Not New Orleans/Louisiana itself

A new hurricane... thank goodness! I was getting nervous that the price of gas was actually going down a few cents over the last week or so. This will FINALLY give the oil companies a good excuse to jack things back up again. Phew!

Is that sarcasm? I think that's sarcasm.

Maybe you folks should start building your houses on pontoons or something. :D

Or move up here... we don't get any of those extreme weather things :D
(only earthquakes...)

It works for a lot of folks around here that live on the Columbia and Willamette rivers. Some of these floating houses are downright awesome too.

What I find so odd is all the hurricanes hitting the Gulf Coast over the past couple years.

When my husband and I were dating/engaged, he was stationed in North Carolina. This is 1998-1999. I remember how the east coast was the one getting pounded in those days.

In 2002, we moved to Pensacola, FL. When we moved there, I felt safe since most the storms hit the east coast and the Gulf Coast just seemed to get a few small Tropical Storms.

Then Ivan hit.....and Dennis......and Katrina......and Rita.....

It seems the east coast has been quiet.

Well the good news Ken is that it appears you are safe and sound:-)

The bad news is who is steering this thing?!?!?! You were supposed to do a complete U-turn and take it back out over cooler waters!!! It's now coming my direction:-(

Here goes the gas prices. Can you say $3.59 a gallon?

Here in Naples, I'm not liking the latest gaggle of computer models. Reminds us of Charley two years ago. It'll hit the mountains of Cuba, then who knows.

The people in the Netherlands have it right. They knew of the inevitability of their situation and built the dike system to sustain themselves against the ocean.

Until the Unites States comes to that conclusion in the New Orleans area and makes the appropriate investment..I would not live there..you are asking for disaster and heartache.

Good luck to you with Ernesto and I hope it does not have the same consequences of Katrina.

It should be gone by then, Robert. Looks like its gonna blow and hit wherever it hits by Tuesday or Wednesday.

Looks like it's going to veer away and bother Florida a lot more.

See hurricane track here

Well, I hope Tampa doesn't get to torn up. I'm supposed to go work at MacDill AFB for the month of September. I was looking forward to get some great sunsets across the gulf. If it's torn up I probably won't be tasked to go.
