Do you think the title has to do with more than 60% of the score ? I really do.

I submitted a very bad title on my picture and just scored 4.9 something...very bad for my 1st contest. ;o) anyway --

I've seen reasonable pictures with very nice titles score better than very good pictures with bad titles. Maybe the best title would be 2 words long, says not much and might include the contest subject on it.

Now, I will try this theory by submiting a not so good picture with the shortest title I come up. Let you know how it performed by next week.

Well, I think a title is crucial to an image...and I once thought the length was imperative...but here is an example for you. Currently I have 3 images on my front page....the titles consist of 2 words, 1 word, 6 words. They are all doing well and the highest one is 6 words....go figure.

Judi,

However your top 5 pictures have only few words on the title which would make my theory stronger.

Very nice pictures (incredible) by the way. I loved the KISS !!

Weren't you two ever brand-new members? He's barely been here two weeks and probably just beginning to find his way around the site. This isn't a dead horse to him! Instead of showing him such intolerance how about linking him to some of the other threads and maybe making him feel a bit welcome?

And to Wazz... an extra THWAP just cuz :)

Oops, didn't think of that. I was just saying I like that smiley better since the thread was dead.

On titles (I haven't read the other thread on why they suck) I think they can be very important, but only if they're stupid.

An okay or even great title doesn't mean much many times. Sometimes, such as "play on words" or tribute entries, they are essential. Most of the time, you only have to make sure you don't have an idiotic title to keep from lowering your score.

OMG... Another thread bitchin' about titles?

Sometimes the title alone is enough to
cause complete loss of bladder control:

And I-I-I-I-I-I-E-I-I-I-I-I, will always love you-u-u-u-u....

BC, thanks for the nice words !! Love your pictures by the way.

Wazzo, I know you're just jealous (LOL) ;o). You take nice pictures too, and use short titles sometimes. Congrats.

Have fun, that's why we were here....

I only read the title when the picture doesn't tell the story. But when I have to read the title your photo didn't tell the story and therefore isn't good enough.
When you leave the field blank there should simply be nothing on the vote page, not even an "untitled" title.
What is the idea behind titles, is it something from paintings? Most of the time when I look at photographs in a museum, magazine or newspaper they don't have titles. Maybe a caption, but not a title.
