Just a quickie-

If I were to go to the mac side :0P -seeing that it now runs windows, does that mean I will not have to rebuy my software? In other words, will my CS2 for windows run on the mac and other programs as well?

I'm thinking about buying a notebook but can't afford to rebuy all my programs!!!

You would have to get a copy of Windows XP SP2 full install disk. Install windows, after you have installed windows you can then install your other windows software! Most of the companies do not allow you to install their software on two machines at the same time, so you may have to delete it from you old machine,so read the EUA for each one.

Good Luck

You would have to create a dual boot system or run virtual PC or Buy the programs for the Mac.

So yes you will have to buy all new programs if your intention is to go strictly mac.

adobe does allow you to have CS installed on two machines at once.

also, BEWARE! the new intel macs have trouble with mac versions of CS2 (and lower). i have had 2 friends run into trouble with that.

I wouldn't say they have trouble...there just slower then there PC equivelant due to having translate code. I run CS2 and lightroom on my macbook just fine with 8mp files...

some software companies will let you transfer licenses between platforms.

If/when CrossOver ships, you won't have to do any of that mess others have mentioned here. You could just install your PC version of Photoshop on the Mac and launch it directly with OS X- no Windows, no Virtual PC (which longer exists anyway) and no slow emulation. The software is due any day now and will cost about $60.

Microsoft announced the end of Virutal PC on the 8th. No big surprise since Macs can already run Windows at full speed with Apple's free Boot Camp (for those desperate enough to do so).

I have the new MacBook Pro and have no trouble running PS7 on it. I'll graduate to CS when they work the bugs out.

For whatever it's worth, I just got a Mac after thinking about it and checking into it for quite some time. I don't have it yet (ETA is Monday). I am REALLY looking forward to it.

BTW, I also got a Spyder2. Just finished calibrating my monitors here (on the old laptop and second monitor). What a difference!

Wow! I'm surprised you haven't received it yet (unless you had it "custom" configured with additional RAM, etc.)

iMac 20" with extra RAM (2 gigs). I got to see one live about a month ago, and really, really liked it. Since I already have a pretty good laptop (for travel), this will be just right for me.

I did. Extra RAM. But they gave me free 2 day shipping because of the delay. I'm in no real hurry, so it's OK.

BTW, Kat and Shannon, thanks for all the help to both of you (and to Zeuszen).

i have a macbook pro, and if i install the latest security update offered by apple, i won't be able to run all of my cs2 programs. i tried it and tried it, and ended up having to revert back to my system the way it was before the update. now i'm scared i'll never be able to be up-to-date on my OS software... which sucks.
