this is the first really nice thing i've ver bought myself with money that i earned.

meet 'take me back to firenze', or 'firenze' for short.

thanks for everyone who gave me support and insight and dealt with my whining about UPS being slow/incompetent.

i would also like to thank my boss who also has an appreciation for photography and owns a d70 of his own, who has sent me on various photography shoots around campus even though it has very little to do with my job, and if he hadn't hired me i wouldn't have the money for this camera :D

and i would also like to thank san marco, sirmione, and albion, my other cameras who have taught me much and kept me going until reaching this goal :D

firenze's battery is charging. meanwhile, i've been holding it up and peeking through the viewfinder...this thing is so big and heavy i can't even hold it steady to look through :D that's wat tripods are for. oh and i probably need to work out or something :DDDDD

i am too excited to use capital letters.

Congrats on your upgrade. Don't mess around a drop it in all your excitement. Be sure to post some shots when the battery is done charging.

once you start using it alot you will build up the arms and eventually it wont be heavy. Til you put a 500 mm lens on there. :-)

want to add you are a great photographer can't wait to see what you do with this camera.

Congrats. I am just curious what made you decide on your camera model. I am poised to buy a camera at the end of September (then I too won't be using capital letters) and I like knowing what others think. Again, congrats.

Battery just finished charging. I'm still down in my office, but I'll head out into the great outdoors in a few hours. So for now, have my first shot ever with my own dSLR.

army: The reason I bought this camera was because I already have lenses for it, since I have ones of its older film-eating relatives. I went with the 7D over the 5D because I wanted something solid and heavy and would last me a really, really long time.

edit to add that i love my boss because he just suggested i go out and take a few pictures for some stuff, 'for the website' :D

Good on ya mad. I just got my D70s last Thursday and the rest of my bits have been slowly showing up on my doorstep. Got my 50 mm last night (WOW!) and my sb600 flash should be here today.

I've been having way too much fun shooting to go through and edit so far!

Anyways, congrats! Welcome to the "Oh, I need that too now!" club.

Congrats on the camera. Which lenses do you have, and do the old Minolta lenses work? I used to shoot the old 900, metal body,
I think. That was film days and some useful soul stole it and my lenses. Switching from P&S to SLR can take a while.

it takes the same lenses as my film camera, so yeah. i have what i believe is the kit lens for the maxxum 5000i ( //www.photozone.de/2Equipment/minoltacamera.htm about halfway down the page), as well as the sigma 70-210 (which is mounted now).

not to sound mean but most prices I see on the maxxum 7d is between $799-899 and the Soney DSLR A100 is about $899-$1000, why didnt you hold out for that, as Konica Minolta stopped making dlsrs and sold it to Sony which is using the Konica/Minolta Mount. Im not bashing the 7d as it is a great system And am glad to see you steping up to a dslr, I applaud any one who dose.
Congrats and have fun posting more pics.

Since the Alpha seems like just a pricier version of the 5D, I really wanted something more solid and reliable, and on top of that I am hesitant to have my dSLR share a name with half the electronics I own. I feel like the only thing I'd be paying for is the extra megapixel count, which really isn't that important in the end and is what I feel something used to hook in newbie photographers.

And also, I picked up my 7D body for under $650, including shipping. Also, I have a slight bias towards somewhat obsolete equipment...I got my Powershot secondhand several years after it was released, and for a long time I refused to let go of my 2mp Olympus from 2001. And especially since I already own a Maxxum 5000i, I felt like I wanted to get its digital cousin. If I get really attached to something I will get very name-loyal, espcially a name that I know I can trust for the products the company puts out.

On top of that, I'm slightly bitter at Sony for eating KM right after I decided I wanted a digital Maxxum. But on the other hand, I won't be on a shortage of lenses, either.

Sorry if I sound defensive or anything...I don't mean to, but I've had to run through this spiel about ten times in the past week, including three times to my father who kept advising that if I really felt like I wanted a dSLR that badly I should either wait for the price of the Alpha to drop or just pick up a Rebel -_-

sounds like you did the most logical thing.

Congrats. I just got my D50 yesterday and im totaly into it. My 18-70mm nikkor hasn't come yet, so i spent 20 more dollars and bought therr 28-80mm with the camera. Only 20 dollars lol.
