Maybe we can get someone who speaks Portugese to interview him and give us the lowdown. I am curious about his story. Until it's proven otherwise, I will continue to assume that he is a quick study of what makes a DPC ribbon winner; regardless of how long he's been shooting and how much equipment he has. If I could afford it, you can guarantee I'd have all of that fun stuff too;)

Don't forget the possibility that he just happens to enjoy shooting what DPC likes. I have attributed much of my success to such serendipity.

Very true. I didn't mean to insinuate that he was shooting to please DPC voters at the expense of what he likes; only that he may have used the talents of DPC members as inspiration for his own progress. In other words "He's a great student of great teachers."

Some of you might not remember it but years back there was a movie called "the burning bed". It was about a woman who sets her husbands bed on fire while he slept in it. I think he was drunk, but he was an abusive husband and I think a cheater to. The movie was based on a true life story.

When I saw the picture on the home page and the title I think that is what they must mean by the betrayed part. I might be wrong but its an idea. I think the picture and the title was about that movie.

-First, I dont think that`s nudity... neither less soft porn (???)...
-Second, Yep, I think the title must mean she was a mad woman who set a fire...(we "non speak" english people, may have some not so clear titles...)
-Third, you dont have to be a pro to have a fog machine... Joey Lawrence have one also (and he is VERY good, but he even had it since his first begining)

I think De Sousa, is a really good photographer, who had "the dpc touch", he makes some really great pictures and I hope he continue to do so `cause I really enjoy his work... Congrats on ALL your ribbons! keep the good way!

"To be betrayed" is an old Portuguese phrase which means "get a wedgie". The title makes perfect sense when the original idiom is recalled...

Maybe this has been mentioned prior, but to me this is simply a mannequin as there are no indents in the legs and the fireman is standing upright whereas he would be hunched down with weight. Therefore there is no "porn" or "nudity" but only the suggestion of it. I still think it could have been better titled...but nevertheless an excellent image.

lol. I can see why you thought otherwise. I had to *ahem* verify that Karen was indeed right by dragging it into photoshop.

If that's the case, they are doing some amazing things with mannequins these days... ;) Looks like a real lady to me.

As a photog that has run nudes in a few challenges, I tend to disagree... I think they are more likely to backfire on you here at DPC.

The fact that this seminude shot made the front page is IMHO a testiment to the technical and artistic proficiency of the photog.

As you've pointed out somewhat in your last sentence, a nude image has to be done well (probably even better) to score well in challenges.

Yes, there will be "backfire" in some cases, especially depending on the challenge theme and if it appears someone is just tossing in some skin in hopes of scoring well (I, for one don't like that).

Overall, does sex sell? As long as the image doesn't suck, the DPC voting community has answered yes, it does. JMO of course as I have no firm statistics to back it up. ;^)
