----------------

There was a thread about a South-West GTG for all the people who didn't live near London or were too chicken to travel there alone (me, lol) a while ago but it never materialised into anything. I just thought I'd throw this idea out there. I'm at University all year in Bristol so any weekend I'll be available, but I thought I'd see if any other people were interested and what dates would be best?

Just gathering opinions and checking out interest at the moment. I thought we could maybe start off in the city centre with the cathedral, old buildings, new modern bits etc, and walk up through Clifton which is a more "posh" area which also has the Suspension Bridge which is free to walk across. We could then have a meal or something after... or maybe before? I dunno, lets just see what people think before we start arranging plans :P

It's not too bad a drive for me to get down that way, or there's always the trains I guess :o) I'm definitely interested, but you need to propose a few dates before I can commit...

I'm going to the US in October to see my parents and for a wedding I've been hired to shoot. If the GTG happens while I'm here in the UK, I may go. But I really shouldn't since you chickened out of mine!!!! :P

That is true, I deserve to be stood-up big time! Hehe :)

As for dates, how about the 14th or the 21st? Both are Saturdays. Or are Sundays better for people?

And it's now 10.40am, and you're a student. Shouldn't you still be in bed?

Ah, I get it, you haven't *gone* to bed yet.... :-p

Hi Cyberneph!
Hmmm... have already posted myself to arrange another GTG for TFTTF which means I don't have any dates left in October really... especially as we're going to India for part of that month.
In principle I'd be interested but suspect I won't be able to make the first one.
:(
Sorry!

It's a possible for me too - I'm only down the motorway in Swansea.

Does depend on dates and other commitments though.
We have friends in Bristol so I could even bring the wife and little un along and drop them off there to go shopping in cribs while we go shooting...

I will still be in the US on the 14th but I give Manic permission to go without me :P

Woohoo!!!

We were driving through Bristol a couple of weeks ago and I was on the verge of digging up the old SW-GTG thread as a result.

Certainly me and the better half are interested - the 7/8th and 21/22nd my be difficult though as we have gigs on the sat nights (www.theunforeseen.co.uk).

edit: made link live on the remote chance that someone might be interested :)

Hi Ben,

I am interested, both weekends are at first glance ok with me. But I need to know more about the plans for the GTG. From Manchester the earlier train will put me there around 11, and the latest one leaves at 19:20 unless it makes sense to spend the night there.

If anyone is driving from the north I will be glad to join you and share the expenses.

Ivan

If it's easy to get to from London, I'll come!

Looks like 14th is best at the moment then?

Bristol Temple Meads is the station you want to look at coming into. There are regular trains to London Paddington, don't know about the rest of the country though. There is also Parkway and a couple of others but they are smaller and a long way out from the centre. Temple Meads is only a 10-15 minute walk from the centre and there are regular buses just outside.

How about if we aim for 12:30-1:00 for having a meal somewhere near the centre (plenty of choice, anyone have food preferences?) and those of us who are there beforehand can wander around snapping or chatting or whatever, gradually meeting people as they turn up. I can email my mobile number so people can contact me when they arrive. Once we have numbers I can book a place somewhere for lunch. Then we can slowly wander up to Clifton (about a 30-40 minute walk without stopping but I expect we'll be slow, what with taking pictures of things left right and centre and everything - plus I might get us lost hehe).

Would that be enough time to come from London that morning or would I have to get there the day before?

I'm interested, dependent on dates of course.
The 14th is not good for me as I come back from Egypy (hols) the day before and the following day (15th) there's a RPS Workshop that I'm thinking of attending.
Sunday's would, generally, be better for me.

I live just a few miles to the north, so I could probably get there! :)

If it is the 14th then that will be great as that is my only free Saturday in October.
It's about 3hrs drive in my old banger or 4.5hrs on the train and 2 changes.
So the old banger wins - she will be fine just make sure I have AA cover for then.

Ben,

If we start after lunch then we might finish quite late innit? could you suggest a place to stay in Bristol?, as I said trains to take me back to Manchester are too early (around 7pm)

Are you looking for somewhere cheap and cheerful or somewhere posh? :)
