Nikon AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D

Well I made it through my first paid portrait shoot for a Martial Arts school today. I bought a manfrotto backdrop support system, a black muslin and some studio lighting off an ebay vendor and I was on my way. I was real nervous, but with my wifes help doing the paperwork as each student posed for me, it went real well. I have another shoot for the same school later this week - Im so pumped, wish me luck. Here is one of the portraits I took - would like some feedback. They wanted a straight black background for the photos, it was tough against the bright white uniforms - hope it cam across ok.

Looks good to me. Pretty straightforward lighting, but I imagine they wanted something pretty standard. What setup and angle did you use?

I wonder if having her do a stance would have made it more dynamic though.. whether it was a hands up or at ease.

Had to use this specific pose - they have a wall of the graduating black belt photos - all in the same pose/look.

ahhhh, Confucius say: Only the wisest and stupidest of men never change.

Not really sure which they are :P

I'm sure they will be some of the finest photos on that wall there Bob. And hopefully in some houses too so you can make some cashola offin it.

Hopefully, after you shot the one they needed .. you then shot a bunch that *she* would want to buy. :-) (call it a two-fer)

I did shoot a few extra poses on request, and hopefully will be able to pay off the equipment I just invested in. Thanks for all the feedback guys!

Looks great to me Bob. About time that equipment started paying for itself, right? How many portraits did you end up doing? And how big will the prints be for their wall?

The prints for the wall will be 8 x 10, I took photos of 10 students on Saturday, and will do another 30 on Monday.
